Providing comprehensive solutions to ending homelessness and achieving self-sufficiency.
About us
Central City Concern is ending homelessness by treating the whole person, as a person. Each year, more than 13,000 people turn to us for compassionate support to become self-sufficient and productive. The factors that contribute to homelessness are complex. A web of structural weaknesses and individual circumstances surrounds our clients, leaving them vulnerable at many points in their lives. We draw on more than 40 years of front-line experience to provide the help people need when they need it most. CCC’s approach addresses both the systemic drivers of homelessness and the individual factors that can reinforce it. We help our clients overcome barriers such as lack of affordable housing, health care and living-wage jobs, systemic racism, mental health challenges, chronic health conditions, substance use disorders, and time spent in the justice system. And everything we do rests on our foundational belief in the restorative power of human connection and dignity. Empowered by our staff, donors, partners and volunteers, we’re creating a proven solution for our community — one person at a time.

Providence Health Plan is a long-time partner of CCC’s efforts to serve the most vulnerable in our community. Recently, Caresse Sakagawa, Chief Marketing and Product Officer, and Andy Mendenhall M.D. Mendenhall sat down to talk about what non-medical factors affect someone’s health – things like food, housing, and community connections – and why they’re so important in the recovery journey. We’re proud to partner with Providence Health Plan on their Health for All campaign! Take a minute to learn more about how the social determinants of health affect someone's entire well-being: https://lnkd.in/gHZ_KeQF #endhomelessness #HealthcareOnLinkedin #HealthEquity #Healthcare #CommunityFirst

Koko Ta’ase was stuck in a cycle of addiction and feeling lost. After years of struggling, he reached a turning point where he knew something had to change. With the support of CCC’s recovery programs, Koko found his way back to stability and purpose. Now, he’s helping others navigate their own journeys of recovery, offering hope that change is possible no matter how difficult the road has been. Here’s his full story – in his own words: https://bit.ly/3Ygx0Hj #compassion #hope #fullcircle #clientstory #endhomelessness #recoveryispossible #recoverycommunity

A heartfelt THANK YOU! On October 9, we came together for Compassion in Action to celebrate the thousands of lives changed and the successful journeys yet to come. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who made the event a success, raising over $485,000 in honor of 45 years of CCC’s mission of compassion, hope and recovery. Here’s the full event recap: https://bit.ly/3BKJOOS This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, whose contributions directly impact the lives of those we serve. Special thanks to CareOregon, our presenting sponsor; U.S. Bank, our reception sponsor; Alaska Airlines, our paddle raise sponsor; and our platinum sponsors, Providence, Walsh Construction Co., and The Larry and Pam Naito Fund. It was truly inspiring to hear the stories of triumph though compassionate community support at today’s “Compassion in Action” event from Central City Concern. We’re proud to be a long-standing partner with this organization that has made such a deeply positive impact in the health and well-being of our most vulnerable populations for the past 45 years. Being in community with mission and values-aligned people and organizations makes me grateful and happy because it’s what makes #Portland beautiful. Today we celebrated the amazing work of Central City Concern and their 45 years in service to houseless citizens. It’s not easy work but it’s making a difference in building a more equitable and secure future for all Oregonians. Congratulations to Congressman Earl Blumenauer for being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for your steadfast commitment to advancing healthy lives in Oregon. I’m also proud of Caresse Sakagawa from Providence Health Plan for serving on the Central City Concern board. It was a wonderful luncheon and chance to reflect on what really matters. Bravo, Andy Mendenhall M.D., and your entire team! 👏 #healthforall #sdoh #Proud2BePHP

Many individuals arrive at CCC with few or no personal belongings. We are incredibly grateful to the wonderful team who assembled “Welcome Home” kits for every new resident moving into Meridian Gardens! These kits were made possible through funding from Multnomah County JOHS, and volunteers from Walsh Construction Co., Ankrom Moisan, and GLI Advisors graciously came together to assemble them. Thank you for helping us welcome our newest residents. Your efforts truly make a difference, showing our residents that they are cared for and supported. We appreciate YOU for making this impact! #endhomelessness #grandopening #portland #volunteer
