Students who are On-Track at the end of their 9th grade year — earning at least a quarter of the credits needed for graduation and receive no more than one “F” — are as much as four times more likely to graduate from high school than their off-track peers. The Center for High School Success partners with high schools and districts to improve graduation rates through a focus on 9th Grade Success. In addition to drastically improving graduation rates, prioritizing 9th Grade Success improves attendance rates, strengthens student engagement, and lays the foundation for career & college pathways.

Principal John Hayman, Tara High School, East Baton Rouge, Louisiana Educational leaders from St. Louis, New Orleans, Seattle, Denver, and Baton Rouge joined us at CHSS Demonstration School Tara High School for an incredible day of learning and networking. We heard how Tara leadership accomplished a turnaround of 33% to 90% of 9th Graders On-Track - #1 growth in our CHSS National Network - spoke with inspiring 9th & 10th Grade students about their experiences in Tara's Freshman Academy, observed dedicated educators leading the work, and of course, enjoyed some local cuisine!
