About us
Since 1993, Young Women’s Freedom Center has provided support, mentorship, training, employment, and advocacy to young women and trans youth of all genders in California who have grown up in poverty, experienced the juvenile legal and foster care systems, have had to survive living and working on the streets, and who have experienced significant violence in their lives. Our Mission is to build the power and leadership of directly impacted young people and inspire them to create positive change in their lives and communities. We meet young people where they’re at: on the streets, in jails and detention centers, and in the neighborhoods and communities where we live. Together, we build our personal and collective power, heal from trauma, advocate on behalf of ourselves and each other, and gain access to education and work to transform the conditions, systems, and policies that lead to intergenerational cycles of violence, incarceration, and poverty. Our Vision is a world in which all young women and trans youth of all genders have the support they need to recognize and end all forms of oppression, to heal, and to live self-determined lives.

August isn’t over yet! And we’re here to share a few things about Black August. All month long we honor Black freedom fighters, and our fighters from the inside! And achieving liberation isn't just about fighting. We can show solidarity by supporting Black-owned business in our communities, going to Black events being UNAPOLOGETICALLY BLACK! And do not forget to VOTE this season. Change happens when we make it happen. How will you be celebrating? #Blackaugust #Blackliberation #Freedomfighters

If passed, Prop 36 will roll back a decade of progress in criminal justice reform! We can’t let that happen. STAND UP AGAINST PROP 36! ✊ We’ve seen time and time again how tough on crime bills simply DO NOT WORK! PROP 36 will give BILLIONS of dollars to policing and prisons, while taking away BILLIONS from mental health resources, drug treatment and other important services created to HELP the community. What if we invested in community instead of prisons? #STOPprop36 #california #reform
