Protecting public health and the environment
About us
The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San) has been protecting public health and the environment since 1946. Today we collect and clean wastewater from nearly 500,000 residents and more than 15,000 businesses on over 3,000 parcels in central Contra Costa County, California. Whatever goes down our customers’ drains travels through our 1,500-mile sewer system to our treatment plant in Martinez, where we clean about 13 billion gallons of wastewater every year. We also operate a popular Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, provide recycled water for landscape irrigation and industrial use, and promote pollution prevention through a variety of education, outreach, and inspection programs. We love shining a spotlight on our incredible Central San team! These dedicated professionals work behind the scenes protecting public health and the environment every single day. 🌍 Thank you to California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) for recognizing our efforts!
CAPIO members are visual storytellers and often celebrate public servants who work behind the scenes. We remind the public that there are people who are quietly ensuring that essential services run smoothly every day. In Central Contra Costa Sanitary District's case, their communications team brings to light those who literally work in the dark. This photo expertly captures the kind of work that is "out of sight, out of mind." This image won an award of distinction from CAPIO in the photography category. CAPIO's EPIC Awards are a chance to allow public communicators to be in the spotlight, too. Though our work is public, our work often goes uncredited. Submit your entry today in categories including graphic design, newsletters, social media, video, websites, branding, public safety education and much more to bring recognition to your hard work and creativity. Early bird deadline is this Friday, January 10! Learn more about awards categories, criteria and deadlines at https://lnkd.in/gKBaVfbM.
