Today is National First Responders Day and we could not let it end without shouting out our men and women, as well as the others who work every day to make sure our community is safe. Without you all doing your part, Charlotte could not be the amazing city it is. Our first responders work side by side to provide the ultimate service to our city and we could not be more thankful for all you do. Thank you for answering the calls of our community!
About us
The goal of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is to make Charlotte one of the safest large cities in America. To do that, we continually advance strategies that prevent crime. We find ways to engage the community in taking steps that help minimize opportunities for victimization. We explore appropriate policy direction with the Mayor and City Council. We seek solutions to the complex community problems that contribute to crime and disorder. And we enforce the laws and arrest the people who break them. The officers, staff and volunteers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department take very seriously their duty to provide citizens with professional, innovative and effective service. Community safety is a shared responsibility and we are committed to working in partnership with neighborhood residents and business owners as well as other local, state and federal agencies to reduce crime and increase safety.

Last week, officers from our Central, Independence and Providence Divisions came together to host a Coffee with a Cop event at a McDonald’s in the Independence Division. These officers saw a need in an area that was recently affected by crime and used this opportunity to reassure the citizens of their presence and work in the area. Great job!

Please join us in recognizing the good work of one of our own, Officer TJ Smith. On Monday, Officer Smith responded to a larceny call for service where he was approached by a mother who told him her children’s bikes had been stolen. Officer Smith contacted Toys for Tots and received two bikes for the kids. He then dropped off the bikes with the help of Officer Herrera. The smiles on the kids' faces speak for themselves! Thanks for being daymakers Officer Smith and Officer Herrera!
