About us
Child Advocates of Fort Bend strengthens the child's voice, heals the hurt, and breaks the cycle of abuse and neglect for children and families in Fort Bend and surrounding counties. Child Advocates of Fort Bend is a nonprofit agency working to end child abuse in Fort Bend County. We serve child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect through a "one-stop", comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach. We operate two nationally-affiliated programs: Court Appounted Special Advocates (CASA) - We advocate for children in the foster care system through trained community volunteers. Our goal is to find children a safe and permanent home. Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) - We provide a safe place for children who have been sexually abused, severely physically abused or witnesses to domestic homicide to disclose their abuse to forensic interviewers. A team of social workers, licensed therapist and victim advocacy specialists provide free therapy, family support and criminal court advocacy. We partner with law enforcement and the district attorney's office on the prosecution of criminal cases. - We match every child in foster care with a CASA volunteer. - We have never turned away a child in need of our services. - All of our services are free.

Recently, our CASA staff was able to set up a calming corner in a classroom. This was extra special because Mrs. Turnipseed is a former CPS caseworker that we have worked closely with, and she understands the importance of being trauma informed. Our calming corner provides a small area of the classroom where a child may go when they feel overwhelmed and dysregulated. Provided in the corner are texture rich fidgets, weighted blankets, stress strips, aroma therapy as well as a white noise machine. Our trauma informed calming corner will give the child the opportunity to utilize the various coping tools to regulate themselves so they don’t have to be removed from the classroom. She has two inclusion classes with 38 students so it is imperative that students of all needs have a safe space to regulate so they can go back to learning. Also included are kick bands for chairs, anxiety balls, and lap weighted/textured blankets that students can keep at their desks. Our toys aren’t just toys, they are tools with a purpose. We’re resetting our play therapy rooms because an organized space promotes calmness and a sense of wellbeing. Consistency is critical for the children we serve. Often, there are inconsistencies in other areas of their lives and when they come to therapy, it is very important for the rooms to be the exact same for every session. They will notice if something is out of place, and it can hinder their healing process. As you are out and about this week pay attention to how your surroundings affect how you are feeling. When you walk into your home do you feel calm and serene or heavy and chaotic? Are you in need of a reset?
