🌍 🔄♻️ We have recently completed the pre-feasibility study on inter-municipal integrated #waste #management” in #Gjilan and #Ferizaj in Kosovo. This study lays out comprehensive measures for #WastePrevention, #SeparateCollection, #recycling, and #recovery, driving cities in Kosovo towards #CircularEconomy and #CarbonEmissions. Key results include: ✅ the need for upgrades to the regional waste landfill; ✅ a new transfer station for Ferizaj; ✅ plans for advanced waste management infrastructure like #MechanicalBiologicalTreatment and #AnaerobicDigestion plants. ✅ Exciting preliminary projects were identified, such as landfill reconstruction, composting facilities, and recycling centres. ✅ The study emphasizes #intermunicipal #cooperation, with all municipalities signing agreements to jointly manage waste systems. In the words of Gjilan’s Mayor, Mr. Alban Hyseni, “through the pre-feasibility study we have managed to bridge significant gaps within policy and planning, thereby facilitating easier financial access for our municipalities. The experience has been transformative, offering us not just a study, but a vision to innovate and collaborate more effectively across our municipalities.” #SustainableWasteManagement #CircularEconomy #GreenFuture

This past week at the World Urban Forum (#WUF12), we hosted a session on "Fostering Climate Action at a Local Level” with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), exploring how cities can turn climate plans into investment-ready projects. The session showcased successful city case studies, innovative multi-stakeholder partnerships, and practical solutions like project aggregation. Moderated by Melissa Kerim, our panelists Evans Gichana from the COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF KISUMU; Augustin Maria, Global Lead for Cities and Climate Change at The World Bank; Nisreen Daoud of the Greater Amman Municipality; and Germano Bremm from Prefeitura Municipal de Porto Alegre discussed practical strategies for making climate projects investment-ready. By enhancing project bankability and building multi-stakeholder partnerships, cities can become better equipped to overcoming the city climate finance gap and implement low-carbon, resilient urban projects. Thank you to our panelists and participants for contributing to this important discussion!
