City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers.

About us

City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. During our 40 years serving New Yorkers in need, we have rescued more than one billion pounds of fresh, nutritious food and delivered it—free of charge—to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners, and our own Mobile Markets® across the five boroughs. This year, we will rescue and distribute more than 75 million pounds of nutritious food to our neighbors in need. City Harvest works alongside our community partners to boost community capacity, expand nutrition education, and strengthen local food systems. Since our founding in 1982, City Harvest has always been there to feed our city—one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time. To learn more, please visit cityharvest.org.

Earlier this week, nearly 150 City Harvest volunteers rescued 78,315 pounds of the world's highest-quality foods, including wheels of cheese, jars of artisanal jam, olives, and so much more, at the close of Specialty Food Association's Summer Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center. Our trucks then delivered to Salt & Sea Mission, Teen Challenge, Children of the Light Ministry, and Open Door Family Life Center in Brooklyn; Evangel Christian Center in Queens; and Vision Urbana Pantry in Manhattan. Thank you to all of the partners, volunteers, and food donors who help make it possible for City Harvest to rescue all of this incredible food and deliver it to our neighbors in need! #WeAreCityHarvest

Today, Feeding America released new data about the state of child hunger in NYC: 1 in 4 kids in NYC experiences food insecurity, up from 1 in 5. This reflects what we’ve seen at Mobile Markets and what we’ve heard from the families we serve: Sky-high prices for food, rent, and childcare are making it harder and harder for families to make ends meet. Help provide nutritious food for NYC children and families during the summer months when access to free school meals may become limited by participating in Share Lunch Fight Hunger, our annual fundraising campaign happening now through May 17. Many thanks to Healthfirst for supporting this campaign. Learn more and act today: https://lnkd.in/ehDAQvsr #WeAreCityHarvest

This Earth Day, City Harvest CEO Jilly Stephens sat down with PIX11 to chat about food waste and food insecurity. This year, City Harvest will rescue 77 million pounds of perfectly good, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste. By redirecting this food to New Yorkers in need, we’re preventing more than 45 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere—the equivalent of taking 4,472 cars off the road for a year! Learn more at cityharvest.org. #WeAreCityHarvest

Share Lunch Fight Hunger is just around the corner! Our annual fundraising campaign engages thousands of corporations and individuals across NYC with the goal of raising awareness and crucial funds to help City Harvest rescue and deliver nutritious food for families during the summer months, when access to free school meals may become limited. Right now, 1 in 5 New York City children doesn’t always know where their next meal will come from. This year's campaign will run from May 6–17, but you can sign up a team now and get a head start on fundraising! Many thanks to Paul Hastings for hosting our kick-off event yesterday, where attendees learned about the campaign and volunteered by packing snack bags for children.
