About us

From our humble roots as a railroad water station, the City of Allen, Texas has always been about connections and service. We’re not a small town anymore with nearly 100,000 residents in our dynamic and diverse community, but we aren’t overgrown either. It takes an organization that’s grounded, innovative and focused to stay true to our past, prepare for our future and continue to build a city that is trusted by families, businesses and visitors alike. And it shows – MONEY's "Best Places to Live 2017" has Allen tops in Texas and #2 in the nation. Family Circle, D Magazine, WalletHub, SafeWise, and Forbes have all given Allen praise and high rankings for livability, safety and economics. Allen is 25 miles north of Dallas, Texas and is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. This combines the policy leadership of elected officials with the managerial expertise of an appointed city manager. With a staff of nearly 800 individuals dedicated to our constituents, the City of Allen provides superior service in all levels of municipal operations. Our employees describe our organization as “forward-thinking,” “friendly,” and “appreciative.” We offer competitive salaries and benefit options as well as opportunities for growth, leadership and advancement. In 2016, Allen won several prestigious awards: the National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA); the Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association; and the Governor’s Community Achievement Award from Keep Texas Beautiful. In fact, it's difficult to find a department in the City of Allen who hasn’t been recognized for excellence! We are honored to be the recipient of this year's Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) for Innovativeness. This award recognizes the ways we've leveraged our creativity and vision to bolster Allen's economy. Contributing to this year's recognition was our work with Stillwater Capital on 121 Technology Park, an 84-acre mixed-use development with state-of-the-art amenities. This is the second year in a row that we've received the CEDA for Innovativeness, a testament to our unwavering commitment to continually making Allen a better place to live, work, and play. Thank you Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) for this meaningful distinction.

Director of Community Enhancement at City of Allen

So proud of my team for organizing a creative neighborhood workday event! It started as a neighborhood code sweep that identified 120+ tree violations. Instead of creating 120 code cases, we partnered with residents to hold a workday, assist in removing debris, helping those that needed it, and wrapping up with a mini block party. Results: 90% of violations resolved, residents engaged in improving their neighborhood, and fun connecting with each other. Amazing job making our community a great place! #cityofallen

How does hosting an international figure skating competition benefit Allen residents? When visitors come to Allen for events like skating competitions, they spend time shopping, dining, and staying in local hotels—all of which generate sales tax revenue and help ease the tax burden for residents. Visit Allen, Texas is fully funded by visitors through the Hotel Occupancy Tax, allowing it to bring even more events and visitors to town. It’s a win-win cycle that keeps Allen thriving!

October 9 marked Allen's first-ever Manufacturing Day event, officially proclaimed by Mayor Baine Brooks at this week's Council Meeting. A total of 137 Career and Technical Education students from Allen High School experienced hands-on learning through facility tours and presentations from six manufacturing companies and three engineering companies in Allen, including: All Metals Fabricating, IntelliEPI IR, Inc, Littelfuse, Quest Medical, Inc., KONE, Billings Productions, Inc. (The Dinosaur Company), FlexLink, CEC®, and TNP. Manufacturing Day was made possible through the strong partnership between ALLEN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT and the Allen Economic Development Corporation. It showcased how education and industry can work together to provide students with real-world career pathways in their own community. We're excited to see this new tradition grow in the coming years! 📸 Manufacturing Day photos provided by Allen ISD.
