From maintaining roads to caring for city facilities, we’re grateful for their dedication to our community. They’re also preparing for Household Hazardous Waste Day on November 16, where residents can safely dispose of white goods and other hazardous materials. We’re excited to share the latest installations for Apache Junction’s Vinyl Culture public art project, approved by Council on October 1st. Two AJ intersections now have traffic cabinet art, bringing a splash of color and creativity to the community. These vibrant pieces are just the beginning, and we can’t wait to share the rest of the designs for all to enjoy! Our first traffic cabinet, designed by Tempe artist Kelsey Phillips, is a whimsical portrayal of local animals playing with the fabled "Lost Dutchman's" gold, a legend well-known in Apache Junction. This cabinet can be found on the southeast corner of Winchester Rd. and Old West Highway. Follow her @keymintt on Instagram. Our second traffic cabinet, designed by Phoenix artist Such Styles, depicts local animals in the classic street-art fashion with his own unique flavor. This cabinet can be found at west Delaware Rd. and Apache Trail (Walmart main entrance). Follow him @_suchstyles on Instagram. Stay tuned for more amazing art!

This week, we’re excited to highlight Kaprice Bachtell, an Administrative Assistant in Support Services at the Police Department. Kaprice has been with the city for 1 year and 5 months and has already been named “Employee of the Quarter” for her hard work and dedication! One of her favorite projects in her role has been coordinating the Shop with a Cop event, where children get to shop for the holidays with a police officer. This event helps build positive relationships between local youth and members of our police department. Kaprice loves working for the city because it allows her to be part of a team dedicated to public service. She enjoys being creative and detail-oriented and takes pride in knowing that her work makes a real difference in the community. Born and raised in Apache Junction, Kaprice graduated from Apache Junction High School. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, and they have four children and three grandchildren. Family means everything to her, and she treasures the time she spends with them. In school, her favorite subject was social studies, but she also loved her auto shop elective, where she spent hours working on her 1974 Chevy truck. Her passion for cars even caught the attention of her now-husband. Outside of work, Kaprice enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and listening to music—especially country and 80’s hits. She’s a big fan of Top Gun and loves quoting, “Negative, Ghost Rider,” in daily conversations. Kaprice’s dedication, creativity, and love for her family and community make her a valued member of our team. We’re proud to feature her this week!

As we celebrate Cities and Towns Week, let’s take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our Development Services Department! 🚀 Their efforts are vital in shaping a vibrant and thriving Apache Junction, and they play a crucial role in promoting growth and enhancing our community. Our Development Services Department does it all, from helping developers of all types of projects through the city’s processes 🏗️ to laying the foundations for a well-planned city. They maintain the city’s zoning laws and stay up-to-date with any changes. They guide people through the building permit and inspection processes to ensure safety, review engineering work for both master-planned communities and individual projects, and help maintain attractive, code-compliant properties. Plus, working with non-profits, they support community-wide beautification events. 🌿 Through the collection of appropriate fees, including development fees, they ensure that development pays for itself and that the necessary infrastructure is provided to accommodate new growth. They also collaborate with developers to create and install public art projects 🎨, enriching our community’s cultural landscape. They manage local building permits efficiently, streamlining the construction process for businesses and residents alike. They host the annual Building Safety Month Construction Expo 🛠️, uniting experts and community members to promote safe building practices and innovative designs. And they organize Make-A-Difference Day, which brings together dozens of volunteers for focused clean-up projects, fostering community spirit. Last but certainly not least, with full support from City Council, Development Services is giving away FREE house plans for one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes 🏡 through the “Home Sweet Home” program. This initiative not only provides affordable housing opportunities but helps Apache Junction residents achieve their dream of homeownership, with substantial up-front savings. Development Services is guiding Apache Junction into the future while honoring our history, character, and the breathtaking beauty of Superstition Mountain. ⛰️
