7-Eleven on 5th Street Opens! Get your Slurpee's and fill up your gas tank. The 7-Eleven at 708 West 5th Street celebrated its grand opening this morning with giveaways, music, and $1 hot dogs, pizza, and Slurpee's. The large crowd on hand helped to congratulate owners Onkar and Jyoti, who were excited to open in San Bernardino! On Tuesday, Flats, Wings, & Fry Haven celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting co-hosted by the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees sampled delicious wings, sauces, and gourmet fries served up by owners Alex and Chloris Saelee. Alex is a culinary school graduate, and his training really shows in their recipes. The City unveiled its latest mural at the Rudy C. Hernandez Community Center, located at 222 North Lugo Avenue. Local artists Christian Mariscal was presented with a certificate to recognize his excellent work on over 50 murals, utility boxes, and benches throughout city by Mayor Tran and Councilmen Alexander. This inspiring mural titled "Welcome to San Bernardino" is part of an ongoing effort to celebrate and enhance the cultural richness of San Bernardino through art. Last week, the San Bernardino County Fire District added 12 new positions in the City to better respond to calls for service. The District added a medic squad at Station 222 on the west side at 9th/ Gardner. This station now houses a paramedic engine and a paramedic squad. SBCFD also permanently added 4th firefighters to the truck stations at Station 221 at 3rd near Waterman and Station 224 on E Street near 27th. A new mural entitled “Welcome to San Bernardino” by local artist Christian Mariscal will be unveiled at a 10:00 am ceremony on Tuesday, July 9 at the Rudy C. Hernandez Community Center, located at 222 North Lugo Avenue. The mural is part of the San Bernardino Beautification and Cultural Infusion Project funded through a Creative Corps Inland SoCal grant, from the Inland Empire Community Foundation in partnership with the California Arts Council. The inspiring mural is part of an ongoing effort to celebrate and enhance the cultural richness of San Bernardino through art. Each letter of the mural’s “San Bernardino” lettering features vibrant depictions of the community. “Public art plays a vital role in fostering community pride and engagement,” said San Bernardino Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director Lydie Gutfeld. “This mural is a testament to that vision.” The mural’s creator, local artist Chrisitan Mariscal, is no stranger to public art projects. In recent years, Mariscal, a former graffiti artist, has created murals at parks and community centers across the City. He also has worked with the San Bernardino Public Works Department to creatively paint utility boxes and benches to successfully discourage graffiti at more than 50 locations throughout San Bernardino. #sanbernardino #sanbernardinoca #proud2besb #rudyhernandez #communitycenter
