Vancouver’s emergency action plan to address homelessness includes opening a 150-bed bridge shelter to reduce the impacts of camping across our community and help more people ‘bridge’ the space between living outside and stable housing. We’re now seeking proposals from qualified service providers to help establish and operate this 24/7 shelter. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gcZTuM8u

We came together today to celebrate our Community Court with a ribbon cutting at the new facility. An incredible piece of work that was several years in the making. Within those walls, us folks in blue were grossly outnumbered by so many from the community who pledged to help the clients adjust their trajectory. Elected officials, attorneys, social workers, housing advocates, treatment providers… the proverbial list goes on and on. A testimonial by a gentleman who had come through Community Court thanked the officers who initially contacted him. Because they delivered compassionate service, he entered the world of recovery… populated by all of these other folks in the room who outnumbered us cops 10 to 1. He now has a job. He is a father to his kids. He has purpose in his life and he's crossed an invisible barrier into a life in a community he had only watched through foggy eyes. A huge thank you to everyone in the space today. You're the warm glow of our city.

Established in 1853, Vancouver's Esther Short Park is the oldest public square in the Pacific Northwest. Over the years, Esther has evolved, but its role as a community gathering place has stood the test of time. Esther's evolution continues as we prepare to repair and restore the iconic Salmon Run Bell Tower and Glockenspiel. Fences are now up around the tower in Propstra Square and construction is set to begin soon. Stay updated on the bell tower restoration project and our progress at https://lnkd.in/geY_X26h
