I’m delighted to introduce Clareo’s newest strategy consulting analyst, Nicholas Parissi, who joined our team over the summer after earning a Master’s in Sustainable Energy Technologies from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Besides a passion for innovative energy technologies, he grew up on a farm in central Italy, and so he knows a lot about great food! We also know he is a skilled researcher, as his search for business strategy opportunities in the energy and resources sectors led him right to Clareo. Nicholas thrives on applying his engineering skills to solve complex challenges that require balancing multiple priorities simultaneously, making him an excellent fit for our strategy teams. With that, welcome, Nicholas! We are thrilled to have you on the Clareo team and look forward to the journey ahead! In the meantime, if any of you out there know talented individuals interested in launching their careers in strategy and innovation within the fields of natural resources, mining, energy, nutrition, or food and wellness, please send them our way. We’re currently seeking an intern or entry-level team member, and we’d love to meet them! Please have them submit a cover letter and resume to careers@clareo.com.

The mining industry must rapidly embrace innovation to meet the growing demand for critical minerals. This was a key takeaway from the recent ICMM Global Summit on Mine Tailings Innovation organized by MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, where our Director, Satish Rao, participated in a panel discussion. The summit's discussions covered a spectrum of opportunities, from recovering value from existing tailings to developing in situ mineral extraction techniques. Read Satish's full post below!

    Managing Director, Clareo

Sharing my contributions and key takeaways from the #ICMM Global Summit on Mine Tailings Innovation organized by MIT’s Environmental Solution Initiative. My co-panelists included Christian Spano Ana Fernandez-Iglesias, PhD Oliver Whatnall, and Edianir Bonatti, moderated by Desiree Plata, Associate Professor and Director of the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium. We explored opportunities to reimagine tailings, the discussions included the themes of circularity and  the complete elimination of tailings, and what it would take to achieve these outcomes only being imagined today. The Intelligent Miner International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) ICMM ● There is a continuum of approaches that can impact tailings, from making the most of what exists today to recover value (e.g., minerals, water), eliminating waste (e.g., filtering and dry stacking, dry processing), processing everything (e.g., molten electrolysis of ore, slag, and tailings), leaching everything, and in situ extraction of minerals. ● These approaches can disrupt current flowsheets, and face technological, financial, and operational risk; innovation teams at mining companies should look to derisk the most critical aspects of these new technologies, while guiding technology partners to address the scale and economics required to operationalize them. ● There are learnings from other sectors, such as enhanced geothermal, which built on advancements in unconventional oil and gas, and the space sector, where private space companies have achieved breakthroughs in cost and scale, while developing solutions at speed with agile iterations, modeling, simulation, and prototyping. The mining sector needs to embrace these learnings and move forward at pace to deliver the supply of critical minerals required in the future!

It's MINExpo INTERNATIONAL time in Las Vegas - and Clareo's team were in town to meet with BHP's Think & Act Differently (TAD) team. Satish Rao and Grant Caffery joined a session on TAD's approach, which is focused on building innovations for the future of the mining industry. Their innovation strategy joins the minds of BHP with Rio Tinto, New Boliden, South32, and IGO (so far), demonstrating excellent industry collaboration. The idea of TAD aligns so well with what we do at Clareo! Partnerships between mining companies and technology innovators have to be based on shared or mutual value, and these value sources have to be discussed and identified, using trust and transparency to make the partnerships work. We look forward to seeing the innovations that TAD uncovers, for the benefit of the entire mining industry.

Clareo’s Satish Rao is featured in the Global Mining Review today, with a thought-provoking article on how the mining industry can learn from the oil and gas sectors, while avoiding their pitfalls. How? 1. Transformative exploration techniques: The oil industry's success in Guyana demonstrates the power of innovative exploration methods. Mining companies must develop similar breakthrough technologies for identifying deep porphyry deposits. 2. Accelerated timelines: While average mine development takes 15.7 years, oil projects like Guyana's went from discovery to production in just 5 years. We need to streamline our processes without compromising quality. 3. Unlocking smaller deposits: Fracking revolutionized natural gas production. Similar innovations could make smaller ore bodies economically viable for mining. 4. Balancing progress and responsibility: As we innovate, we must also address environmental concerns and respect indigenous lands. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gn2VJHzc
