Here’s Duncan Meisel explaining everything you need to know about WPP, EACOP and the reality of working with the fossil fuel industry as an ad agency. Discovered by Clean Creatives South Africa in an awards submission video, WPP’s subsidiary MetropolitanRepublic, set up a totally fake front grassroots movement to ‘squash all negative PR’ from environmental protests against a heavily polluting pipeline that will harm communities in Tanzania and Uganda. The campaign was seemingly coordinated with the Ugandan government, with a hashtag trending on Twitter with the help of over 70 posts by Ugandan government accounts. MetropolitanRepublic’s award submission also used photos of 15 grassroots activists in Uganda - 8 of those 15 have been harassed, arrested, or beaten by Ugandan police. 👉 The truth is, working with the bad guys means doing bad things which is exactly why we need you and your colleagues to join our movement to stop campaigns that harm both people and the planet. ♻️Share this video with your network so more creatives can learn how to fight back against harmful marketing tactics like this one. 🔗Read the full investigation by DeSmog about WPP’s work with TotalEnergies here: https://lnkd.in/er6knS32 #WPP #EACOP #MetropolitanRepublic #TotalEnergies #Sustainability #Advertising #Greenwashing #CleanCreatives

This is how Havas Media Network has been working with Shell. ⬇️ 📰 Earlier this year, DeSmog revealed that a Shell ad had received complaints to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority for greenwashing. ADWEEK has now reported that it was the first campaign that Havas Media worked on for Shell since winning the account in September 2023. The ad, created by VML, received complaints which ‘argue that the ad gives a misleading impression of Shell’s environmental impact’, according to the ASA. Speaking to ADWEEK, Duncan Meisel, our Executive Director of Clean Creatives, said that Havas has become “a vital part of promoting their pollution agenda for the foreseeable future.”. “That will have really big impacts on [Havas Media’s] reputation and potentially on their business,” he added. 🗣️ One anonymous senior marketer speaking to ADWEEK about Havas' CEO, said that ‘Bolloré’s previous comments represent a hypocritical attitude toward sustainability’. “Stop gaslighting us,” the person said. “Any CEO, any account director at an agency, is not telling an oil company how to transition. That’s not a conversation that’s happening.” 💬 How does Havas’ work with Shell impact their stance on sustainability? Should VML take all the heat? Let us know what you think in the comments. 🔗 Read the full article by ADWEEK here: https://lnkd.in/ehFsrHau #Havas #ADWEEK #Shell #HavasMedia #VML #Sustainability #Greenwashing #Advertising

📕We’ve got an incredible roster of inspiring Clean Creatives Pledge signers, including the crew at Australian-based, Young Folks | B Corp agency. They created a new service called ‘Ask Pearl’, the Auntie who gives you the straight-talking yet gentle advice you never knew you wished you had. Inspired by The #FList2024, Young Folks | B Corp agency scoured our website, visiting offending agency websites and found some alarming info: 🔴 many of the agencies on the F-List also serve clients who are committed to making a positive impact for people and the planet.🔴 ⬇️ So where does Ask Pearl come in? ⤵️ ✔️Do you work at a PR or advertising agency? ✔️Are you a client concerned about your agency’s affiliations? ✔️Ready to confront your agency’s hidden affiliations? ✔️Or are you questioning if you should? 👉 Ask Pearl. Simply send an email to Pearl about whatever your concerns may be in relation to your agency working with some not-so-great clients, and vice versa. Each letter by Pearl represents ‘a brand coming to terms with the fact that their agency, while publicly championing sustainability and ethics, is working with fossil fuel giants often behind the scenes.’ 🔗 Intrigued? 🚂🎡 It’s time to hop aboard the fossil fuel funfair!! Check out this brand new satirical website – Ogilvyland – by climate campaign group Serious People. It’s a free ticket to scarytown! Take a look into our potential future (and, well, reality these days) accompanied with a little dash of humor. Attractions include “Coal Mine Mountain,” “Rising River Rapids,” and the world’s first “oil slide”! 🎢 Why this website, and why now? “Ogilvy has been taking us for a ride,” said Oli Frost, one of the founders of Serious People and “Head of Flame” at Ogilvyland. “They claim to be helping their fossil fuel clients with a ‘transition,’ but those same clients’ actions tell a different story. This is neither fun, nor fair.” Co-founder of Serious People Jamie Inman added: “Burning ever more fossil fuels might be exciting for Ogilvy’s coal, oil and gas clients but it’s terrifying for everyone else. Ambitious brands are accelerating their climate efforts and will increasingly reject agencies like Ogilvy that try to play both sides.” 🎟️ Unfortunately humanity won’t be able to get off these rides if we don’t act now, and continue to push for change. Take a look at the full website here, and make sure to send it to your industry friends - https://lnkd.in/eMwwCC9J

🎉 That’s a wrap on Climate Week in New York! We had a jam-packed schedule and we’re so grateful to everyone for joining us during such a busy and inspirational week of climate action. A huge thank you to Pace Public Relations for kicking things off with us at our breakfast meet-up. We had an amazing turnout to our Happy Hour with Shimek Strategic where our community met up and celebrated the impact of this year's F-List report, which launched last week. The Creatives Industries Climate Gathering alongside Creatives for Climate Collective and Purpose Disruptors was proof that Climate Week is most impactful when we work together. We also hit the main stage at The Nest Climate Campus alongside Kate Ogden (Seventh Generation) and Whitney Dailey (Allison Worldwide), to discuss how brands' marketing budgets are funding the climate crisis. ➕Hit follow if you don’t want to miss updates for future events. Washington DC is next with details on how to RSVP coming soon. #NewYorkClimateWeek #NYCW #PacePR #Shimek #PurposeDisruptors #CreativesForClimate #ClimateWeek #Sustainability
