Over 100 cruel edicts have been issued to erase women from public life, denying them education, work, freedom of movement, and even the right to speak or show their faces. This is gender apartheid. "It has now been over 1000 days since they banned girls from attending school beyond the sixth grade, making Afghanistan the only country in the world with such restrictions and making it the only country in the world that takes away the inalienable right to education only to girls, ripping away their most powerful tool. The new “morality law” is deeply concerning as it is completely erasing women from public life, not allowing them to sing, speak, or expose faces." This case like many other cases is horrifying! This is the reason I chose to dedicate my career to fighting against gender-based violence. I have seen all kind of cases and seen the strength of survivors who, despite the odds, have spoken up. Unfortunately too many times, laws do not provide adequate protection and our governments ( yes all governments ) do no invest enough to prevent violence against women. If you are outraged, ask what investments and resources are dedicated to addressing violence and push for change.
