Comagine Health is thrilled to announce we have agreed to a new integrated partnership plan with Great Plains Quality Innovation Network (GPQIN). The partnership allows GPQIN and Comagine Health to each leverage our expertise and success in different geographic areas. Comagine Health and GPQIN have a history of working together over the last decade to improve care delivered to tribal populations, and both organizations have a long history with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services serving as the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) in different states. Comagine Health is currently the QIN-QIO for Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Oregon. GPQIN is the QIN-QIO for North Dakota and South Dakota. GPQIN is among multiple partner organizations joining Comagine Health in proposing to serve as the 13th Statement of Work QIN-QIO in Region 6, which covers 14 states from the Pacific Northwest through the Midwest. Several Comagine Health Research and Evaluation team members conducted a study published Monday in JAMA. In the project funded by The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), authors found that only 5.3% of individuals with untreated opioid use disorder received treatment with buprenorphine, methadone or naltrexone within seven days of a hospitalization or emergency department visit. Those who did experienced markedly lower odds of fatal or nonfatal overdose at six months. The article was written by Brigham and Women’s Hospital Emergency Physician Scott Weiner, MD, MPH, Washington County Harm Reduction Epidemiologist Kacey Little, MPH, CPH (former Comagine Health Research Associate), Comagine Health Research Associate Jiah Yoo, Ph.D., Comagine Health Senior Research Coordinator Diana Flores, Comagine Health Vice President of Research and Evaluation Christi Hildebran, Oregon Health Authority Senior Epidemiologist and Policy Analyst Dagan Wright, Brandeis University Associate Research Professor Grant Ritter and Comagine Health Biostatistician Sanae El Ibrahimi, Ph.D, MPH. Comagine Health Idaho State Director Jenny Lingle joined geriatrician and Idaho Community Board member Megan Dunay to weigh in on the recent opening of Keystone Center for Geriatrics’ Boise clinic. As one of the state’s few independent medical clinics specializing in geriatric care, the new location fills a need. Dr. Dunay told KTVB News Group there aren’t many options aside from hospitals for Idahoans who struggle with geriatric conditions, in part because there aren’t enough providers in the state. “As our population ages, I think it’s going to become more and more of a need,” added Lingle. Understanding the needs of those we serve is crucial to the success of our work. That’s why, as the fourth year of our Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services QIN-QIO contract wrapped up, we reached out to nursing home and industry leaders to get their views on successes, barriers and opportunities for improvement. These structured interviews allowed us to both capture individual perspectives and analyze responses to identify themes. We are already using the findings to inform our current QIN-QIO work in Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington as well as our plans for the upcoming 13th Statement of Work in Midwest CMS QIN-QIO Region 6, which encompasses Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Not only can it take pressure off family members during stressful events, health care providers who are enrolled in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Quality Payment Program Merit-based Incentive Payment System can also benefit.
