🌟 TCIS Impact at Sipayik Elementary School 🌟
Sipayik Elementary School (SES) is in its second year of implementing Tribal Communities In Schools (TCIS), and the results have been incredible! In partnership with NIEA and Maine Indian Education, the focus is on removing barriers to success, such as food, clothing, transportation, and more, to help students reach their full potential. 🌱
Last year, SES achieved a goal of reducing chronic absenteeism by 2%, and they’re on track to meet this goal again, despite challenges like seasonal illness. One of the key figures driving this success is Sunshine (Pauline) Lola, TCIS site coordinator, who works closely with students and their families to create personalized plans for improvement. 🌟
Sunshine says it best: “I can’t believe I get to work with the students to support them in meeting their goals!” 🙌
Caleb, a second-grader at SES, is a perfect example of the TCIS model in action. With Sunshine’s support, Caleb has improved his attendance, academic performance, and confidence. His teacher, Ms. Small, has seen remarkable growth and calls him an inspiration to his classmates! 🌈
Donna Richey, NIEA’s Director of Tribal Programs, praises the hard work and dedication of Sunshine, saying: “Sunshine’s natural ability to develop meaningful and respectful relationships with students, see their strengths and find the supports that are important to each student she works with are evident in the progress and data she collects as well as in her weekly success stories she excitedly shares about. She has quickly captured the role of this work and has implemented the TCIS model with fidelity by surrounding students with who and what they need for success.” 🌟
The positive impact of TCIS at SES is undeniable, and we couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and growth happening every day! 💪
