When she’s not at CompostNow, Bobbie loves spending time outdoors with friends and family, and is one of our resident long-distance runners (yes, she’s completed a marathon)! 🎉 Shout out to Marcus Albert on his recent promotion to Sprinter Driver Supervisor! Marcus joined CompostNow four years ago as a Sprinter Driver. Despite it being his first driving role, he quickly became one of our most accurate drivers, with the fewest route mistakes and the highest praise from customers and team members. Since joining the team, Marcus has personally 🍎 collected 877,542 pounds of food waste (from 89,702 containers) and 🌱 delivered 185,325 pounds of compost to members! Marcus has played a vital role in onboarding new drivers, coaching the team through mistakes, and spearheading new initiatives in Atlanta like Hard-to-Recycle Services and the Avondale Estates Curbside Composting Program! We’re grateful to work alongside exceptional teammates like Marcus and are excited to see him grow in his new role!

A growing number of organics haulers have begun offering collection services for hard-to-recycle materials in partnership with organizations like TerraCycle and Live Thrive, Inc. These add-on services often utilize a source-separated model, which lowers contamination and enhances the recyclability of materials through trusted partners. 🎉 It's launch day for the Avondale Estates Curbside Composting Program! Over 300 households signed up pre-launch, so we are off to a strong start on bin delivery day! This free pilot program is open to all residents of the City of Avondale Estates, Georgia. Households that sign up receive a 7-gallon food scrap bin that is tipped once per week by CompostNow. The compost created through this program will be returned to Food Well Alliance and Roots Down who will distribute it to BIPOC growers in DeKalb County and support edible landscapes and local library gardens. This pilot is made possible through a USDA Grant and the partnerships of City of Avondale Estates, Roots Down , Ted Terry for DeKalb Super 6 Commissioner, Food Well Alliance, and CompostNow. The USDA grant covers the cost of weekly curbside collections for one year, marketing and education expenses, as well as the purchase cost of finished compost to distribute to local farms, gardens, and libraries. A behind-the-scenes look into how La Semilla keeps its operations and kitchens sustainable through composting!
