These four notable strategies served as the foundation of Pennsylvania’s long-term care workforce. Attendees of the Bucks County Long-Term Care Summit on June 21 in Newtown identified areas where change was possible at the local level. Long-term care experts pointed to several pieces of legislation under consideration by the Pennsylvania General Assembly that they believe could make a difference: SB 1102 - revamps training for nurse aides, developing a new curriculum and establishing a “train-the-trainer” program model among other changes. It allows nursing students and nurse graduates to use their prior education and clinical experience as a prerequisite to certified nursing assistant examination and certification. The measure, which passed the Senate, was awaiting action in the House. SB 1103 - directs the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to offer a skill competency examination in lieu of a high school diploma or GED for direct care workers. SB 1104 - allows 11th and 12th grade students who work in a congregate care setting to receive elective credits. The measure passed the Senate and awaits action in the House. https://lnkd.in/emb44ehn

CSG looks forward to welcoming hundreds of state officials from all 50 states to our national conference in New Orleans later this year. Today, however, our thoughts are with Louisiana’s state leaders, first responders and citizens of the Pelican State as they prepare for the landfall of Hurricane Francine.
Update from the Louisiana National Guard- In response to the threat of Tropical Storm Francine, the LANG is ready to support civil authorities in response activities, safeguarding the population, saving lives and protecting critical infrastructure. In order to do so, the LANG currently has 387 high-water vehicles and 87 boats manned and staged in southern Louisiana prepared to provide evacuation, search and rescue and recon support. Additionally, the LANG is leading a joint aviation effort of over 50 aircraft among several agencies. In order to provide logistical support to citizens following the storm, Guardsmen have strategically placed 1.1 million liters of water, 1 million MREs, and 55,000 tarps for potential distribution. #ProtectWhatMatters #TheNationalGuard

A couple of weeks late but it was an absolute pleasure to staff The Council of State Governments 2024 Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) in Madison, WI! 39 newer legislators from the Midwest and Canada came together to learn, network, and hone their professional and personal skills. An energetic class of Fellows, intelligent guest speakers, hardworking CSG Midwest staff, and an excellent host in the Fluno Center for Executive Education all combined to make the 4-day event a great success.

In late June, the 40-year-old Chevron doctrine came to an end. Recent court rulings and state actions are reshaping the landscape of regulatory authority. With uncertainty at the federal level, state legislators are adjusting to this new era by more clearly defining agency authority and discretion in their statutes. However, the Midwestern Legislative Conference panelists agreed that industries and interest groups will litigate or relitigate agency authority to make specific regulations. #Chevron #ChevronRuling #LoperBright #SupremeCourt https://lnkd.in/gqCvtuju
