International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution
About us
Established in 1977, the International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR) is an independent nonprofit organization that helps prevent and resolve legal conflict more effectively and efficiently. It manages conflict to enable purpose. The CPR Institute drives a global prevention and dispute resolution culture through the thought leadership of its diverse membership of top companies, law firms, lawyers, academics, and leading mediators and arbitrators around the world. The Institute convenes best practice and industry-oriented committees and hosts global and regional meetings to share practices and develop innovative tools and resources. The Institute trains on dispute prevention and resolution, publishes a monthly journal on related topics, and advocates for supporting and expanding the capacity for dispute prevention and resolution globally. CPR Dispute Resolution harnesses the thought leadership and output of the Institute while providing independent ADR services – mediation, arbitration, early neutral evaluation, dispute resolution boards and others – through innovative and practical rules and procedures and through CPR’s Panel of Distinguished Neutrals. What a privilege it was to meet the large delegation of mediators, academics, judges, and government representatives from Kosovo yesterday. CPR Institute VP of Advocacy & Educational Outreach Ellen Waldman and I enjoyed learning of Kosovo’s courts’ push to increase the use of mediation in commercial disputes and shared thoughts on how to convince businesses to include mediation into their dispute resolution clauses. A big thank you to David Moora of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service for connecting the delegation with CPR as we all continue to support and promote the use of mediation and other disputes resolution processes globally. Disputes over #naturalresources continue to be some of the most significant and contentious disputes of our era, no matter where they occur. Arbitration is an important path for parties to understand and utilize when trying to reach resolution. The CPR Institute’s 2nd annual Africa Arbitration Day-New York (AAD-NY) on Friday, November 1, includes a panel devoted to this issue. Arbitrating Natural Resources Disputes in Africa”: Disputes are inevitable as Africa’s natural resources continue to attract foreign investments. Arbitration is expected to play a vital role in resolving those disputes. This panel will discuss the role of arbitration in revolving natural resources disputes in Africa and the impact that African states’ reforms of their laws related to natural resources could have on the future of foreign investment in Africa. Speakers: Jennifer Glasser (White & Case LLP) Ahmed Abdel-Hakam (Volterra Fietta) James Thuo Gathii (Loyola University Chicago School of Law) Ucheora Onwuamaegbu, PhD (ArentFox Schiff) Mohannad A.
