It has been an eventful freshman year for Crossroads Foundation alumni Kam Chan, (class of 2023) studying Industrial Engineering at University of Pittsburgh. Kam is one of the Kessler Scholars, a member of the Asian Student Alliance (ASA), and works as an intern at the Student Success Hub. Kam recently participated in a 2 week study abroad program in the Netherlands through the Plus 3 Program where he learned about the country's involvement with various companies to tackle sustainability and economic development issues through Engineering. To read more about his experience and learn about the program, you can visit his blog: https://lnkd.in/eqYpbU3T Keep up the great work Kam!
For the last two weeks, I was given the opportunity to study abroad in the Netherlands through the Plus 3 Program at the University of Pittsburgh. While in the Netherlands I was able to learn about how the Netherlands' government and several companies are tackling sustainability issues all around the country. During my visits to six different companies, I gained valuable insights into the crucial role of supply chain management and the process of turning a concept into a product that reaches consumers. We were even given the opportunity to network with Pitt Alumni that now work in the Netherlands! I would first like to thank my teammates: Jules Smalis, Cole Milardo, and Diya Parekh for their work during the trip where we researched the Henri Willig Cheese Company. Delving into their mission statement and sustainable practices, we learned how Henri Willig utilizes suppliers who farm in a sustainable and environmentally conscious manner which then creates fresh, organic products for consumers all over the world. Lastly, I am extremely grateful to my instructors, Karen Bursic and Frank Bursic, for their guidance throughout this trip. By explaining the inner workings between engineering and business within the different companies that we visited, I gained much knowledge that will help me as I develop throughout my career. To find out more about my adventures, you can head to https://lnkd.in/ehHHc5ge to see all of my blogs about the two weeks that I spent within the Netherlands!

The P-G just quoted Crossroads in a fascinating story about how high school seniors are adapting to the affirmative action ban in college admissions--which is raising the importance of the college essay:
After affirmative action ban, more emphasis is placed on college essay

Congratulations to David Mitchell (2017 Central Catholic High School alumni) for receiving the Crossroads Foundation Alumni Award at the 13th annual Crossroads Scholar Achievement Awards last night! This award is given to honor an alum whose achievements and commitment to giving back continue to advance the mission of Crossroads Foundation. Today, David is the Salesforce Manager at Dream.Org, a Nonprofit organization in Oakland, California, that is focused on the intersect between the green economy, and prison reform. They work to open doors into the green economy, and close prison doors. He moved into his current role after working for five years at Computer Reach, a role he landed after interning with that nonprofit while a Crossroads scholar. Starting as an assistant technician, he ultimately worked his way up to the Technology Director role. David has served Crossroads as an internship host for multiple scholars, both in his role at Computer Reach and in his current position at Dream.org. By mentoring younger scholars interested in technology fields, this alum is giving back what was given to him. Because of his professional success as well as continuous support of Crossroads programs and scholars, Crossroads is pleased to honor David Mitchell with its Outstanding Alumni Award!
