Marine biodiversity is plummeting, with species like sharks and rays declining by over 70% in the past 50 years. Rising sea temperatures and acidification have killed over half of the world’s coral reefs, the foundation of marine life. These alarming trends underscore the urgent need for global action to protect our oceans...' View the full newsletter below!

Last week Cruz Foam attended Sustainable Ocean Alliance's Ecopreneur Activation Summit in San Francisco where over 36 other startups in SOAs Ecopreneur network gathered to discuss all things climate action and ocean achievements. On day one, we visited Blue Ocean Gear's facility where we learned about their award-winning smart buoy reducing pollution of ghost fishing gear, we heard from founder of Hohonu, focusing on next-gen water quality monitoring, got to see a Navier electric boat in action cruising the bay, and got to tour Reefgen's facility where they are busy creating innovative seagrass and coral restoration robots! On day two we spent the day at Sales Force tower where we heard from award-winning National Geographic photographer and documentary filmmaker Louis Psihoyos alongside renowned environmental and reproductive epidemiologist Dr. Shanna Swan to discuss their newest upcoming film on plastic pollution and its impact on human health, and got to hear from Cruz Foam Executive Chairman, Tom Chi founding member of Google X and founder of At One Ventures. We’re thrilled to be part of this incredible cohort of startups. Collaborating with such innovative, forward-thinking minds leads to truly inspiring results. Huge thanks to Daniela V. Fernandez and the SOA team for hosting! #cruzfoam #follownature

Dr. Vanessa Z Chan of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) set the stage, emphasizing the importance of Public-Private Partnerships and bipartisan policies in unlocking billions for low-carbon infrastructure and climate technologies. Philanthropic powerhouses Nat Simons and Niklas Adalberth highlighted the potential of strategic investing to catalyze systemic change. Justin Winters (One Earth) and Bradley Smith (One Small Planet) unveiled a roadmap for directing capital toward nature-based solutions, introducing frameworks such as Bioregions and the Global Safety Net. John Felts, CEO of Cruz Foam, along with Sarah Luisi, VP of Strategic Sourcing and Operations at LVMH North America, and Kaley Roshitsh from Casales, explored the realm of circular supply chains and the initiatives LVMH is undertaking to transition to more sustainable materials. CALSTART, Maersk Growth, and Bezos Earth Fund dove into decarbonization in hard-to-abate sectors. Ambition Loop convened runway for Change to illuminate innovation, culture, and transformation within apparel. From renewable energy in textile mills to biomaterials on the catwalk, leaders like PANGAIA and Patagonia demonstrated how collaboration can create a greener future for fashion. As night fell, we welcomed Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who gave a powerful sermon on the importance of this moment and the absolute need to unite to keep our planet moving. We saw the world satellite imaged in a higher resolution courtesy of Gabe Dominocielo of Umbra and dove into conservation upgraded with Robin Moore of Re:wild. We welcomed the inspiring and hilarious Rainn Wilson and Molly Voss of Climate Basecamp, who spoke about the power of entertainment and storytelling in accelerating #climatesolutions, as well as Chuck Tatham, creator of Modern Family, who laid out a vision to bring climate communication into the shows and content of pop culture. The evening was elevated when Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers played an incredible acoustic set with James Felice that left the room inspired, energized, dancing, and singing. To our partners—Cruz Foam, Elysian Aircraft, oneUp, One Small Planet, Sound Future, Climate Basecamp, CALSTART, Umbra, Superorganism, TULU, PANGAIA, Overlay Capital, Sound Future, Re:wild, and more—thank you.
