Everyone has different abilities when it comes to knowing where to find health information, analyzing that information, making decisions and taking appropriate action. Lower income and education levels, which are considered key social determinants of health (SDOH), are strongly associated with lower health literacy. This makes it essential for employers to address both health literacy and the broader social factors that can impact employee wellbeing. A 2024 study found that 53% of workers said their health plans are a top reason they chose their current employer. But if employees don’t understand those benefits or can’t easily access them, their satisfaction and overall wellbeing can decrease. So, what can employers do to help improve health literacy and address the individual needs of employees and their family members? ✅ Simplifying health benefits information and making it easy to understand ✅ Providing personalized support to help employees navigate their health options ✅ Offering resources that address both individual health needs and broader social factors Want to learn more? Join us for our upcoming Coffee with CuraLinc session, where we’ll discuss how social determinants of health (SDOH) impact your workforce and what you can do to support employees facing these challenges: https://lnkd.in/gcd8A7dN #HealthLiteracyMonth #SDOH #EmployeeBenefits #EmployeeMentalHealth

CuraLinc is excited to announce several promotions from within our operations team, effective October 2024! Gloria Farfan has been promoted to Clinical Team Quality Manager. Gloria is an experienced social worker with background in case management, private practice, and staff management. During her time at CuraLinc, Gloria has demonstrated an ability to connect with members, manage a high caseload and respond with a sense of urgency to requests from members and supervisors. All of Gloria’s work has been done with the highest quality at the core. Equally as important, Gloria has strong communication skills -both written and verbal - which will facilitate appropriate engagement with the multiple parties involved in improving the delivery of clinical services. Sara Wortham has been promoted to Clinical Team Queue Coordinator. Sara has been a supportive clinician on the phone with members demonstrating her warmth, gentle manner, approachable nature, and sound clinical judgement. Sara has established herself as a good communicator, great troubleshooter, reliable person, and as someone with a good understanding of procedures and protocols needed for this position. We are excited to see Sara transition to this new role of supporting management and team members in the success and stability of our call center. Sara comes to this role with queue management experience from past workplaces. Paige White has been promoted to Clinical Team Training Manager. Paige has been an integral part of our clinical department since she started 5 years ago. As a Care Advocate, she showed compassion and empathy, ensuring members were connected to care and felt understood. Paige also assisted with various complex outreaches as well as service inquiries and began assisting with training when the need arose. While the training team was in the beginning stages, she learned how to effectively train remotely and strategize for new groups. Her many years of EAP experience and clinical expertise, as well as her patience and ability to teach, made her an excellent choice to be promoted to the training manager. Congratulations to Gloria, Sara, and Paige, for their well-earned promotions!

Transportation industry employees are faced with 24/7 operations, unpredictable schedules and a heightened likelihood of emergency situations. These conditions can take a toll on their mental health and may also affect safety, productivity and turnover. Our recent study of 10,000+ employees from 77 industry employers found that employees in transportation experienced substance use at a higher rate than five other major industries studied, including technology, finance and healthcare. In addition, these employees experienced higher rates of personal stress than all other major industries we studied. While these findings are concerning, our study also showed there is hope for employees who are struggling. After receiving treatment through CuraLinc’s EAP, 72% of those at risk of substance use recovered to no longer be at risk. In addition, 89% of those at risk of productivity issues recovered to no longer be at risk, recouping an average of 40.33 hours per month after treatment. Work environments can vary greatly and may impact employees in different ways. However, access to highly personalized treatment and support can help make a clinically significant difference. Employee wellbeing is about so much more than just health care. Where you live and work matters. The social factors around us, like access to safe housing or reliable transportation, play a huge role in our overall health and happiness. Remember, when evaluating your benefits packages, understand that some of your most vulnerable employees may be struggling to meet basic needs. Employers can help by identifying these needs and proactively supporting them through targeted strategies. Addressing these challenges shows that you’re committed to the overall wellbeing of your team, not just their work performance. Manufacturing employees face heavy workloads and challenging work environments that often impact employee mental health, as well as attraction and retention rates. In fact, CuraLinc’s latest study found that employees in manufacturing had higher rates of substance use than seven other major industries, including retail and transportation. The good news? Our data, which included more than 17,000 manufacturing employees from 600+ employers, demonstrates that personalized navigation to high-quality mental health support has a meaningful impact. After accessing care through the program, 78% of employees struggling with substance misuse and 90% of those with depression symptoms recovered to no longer be at risk. What's more, participants experiencing productivity issues recouped an average of 41 hours each month. When employees receive personalized, high-quality treatment, everyone wins.
