Safety First in Dredging! Council for Dredging and Marine Construction Safety annual meeting today in Washington, DC. Chaired by CDMCS President Devon Carlock of Cottrell Contracting Corporation we had lot of discussion on emergency patient transport, Pipeline Prevention new technology and alert systems for dredging equipment, SSHOs, new regulations and compliance. We had some great dialogue and insights with career experts from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The U.S. Coast Guard attended and participated in discussions and presented on the merchant mariner credentialing application process moving forward, regulations related to harassment onboard vessels and partnerships between the private sector and the federal agencies an example for which being the response to the Francis Scott Key Bridge clean-up. Admiral Wayne Arguin recognized and thanked the dredging and marine construction industry for its fast response to the FSK Bridge clean-up efforts.
William Doyle attended on behalf of the Dredging Contractors of America and said: "Thank you U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Wayne Arguin Jr – Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy and Mr. Jeremy Gauthier – Director of Coast Guard Investigative Service for taking the time to meet and work with us today, it's important to have our federal partners engaged in what we do." Doyle concluded, "CDMCS and the dredging industry puts into practice that safety is everyone's responsibility, and everyone needs to know that they are empowered to speak up if there's a safety issue."
