It’s time for colleges and universities to rethink work-based learning and how federal work-study dollars should be spent. In her recent op-ed for Higher Ed Dive, Education at Work President Jane Swift highlights a critical issue: higher education's approach to work-based learning has left too many college students behind in a “two-tiered system." While some students can work to gain valuable experience and skills that pave the way for long-term career success, many financially disadvantaged students must work to cover basic needs like rent, groceries, and tuition. These students often work longer hours in jobs that offer little flexibility, severely limiting their ability to focus on their education and future careers. “Bridging this gap will require reimagining work and learning, transforming the college job from a basic necessity into a powerful driver of economic mobility.” #workbasedlearning #workstudy #internships #earlycareertalent

We're excited to announce that we're partnering with Intuit to create new pathways for college students to launch careers in Tax and Accounting. This new pilot program will help college students gain valuable industry experience in tax, accounting, and financial services while earning money to offset college expenses. The program will launch in Fall 2024 with Arizona State University students working in flexible, part-time roles in Intuit’s TurboTax business while earning up to $5,250 in tuition assistance. Based on job performance, the students will have the opportunity to transition into roles in Intuit’s Expert Network, which connects tax experts with consumers and small businesses. As Education at Work president Jane Swift shared in this Accounting Today article, "The work we do at Education at Work is predicated on that every student should have the same access to experience networks and upskilling and then a first good job out of college."
