Our Shipyard Operations Leadership Program Cohort 27 kicked off last week! The Career Development Cohort is made up of 16 recent college graduates with majors in Engineering or Construction Management. The new supervisors are entering into a 2-year leadership and trade training program, with the purpose to transform engineers into the next operations leaders at EB. Welcome Aboard!

What are our interns up to this summer? Alexandra Calabro is an Engineering Intern at General Dynamics Electric Boat. Her OS experience has provided and built many soft skills she uses in her summer internship position. Having practiced sending professional emails and communicating information is super valuable when she has conversations with high level engineers. It has also instilled being dedicated to her responsibilities and to including sustainability in all that she does - even small things like printing double sided or trying not to print at all! While Allie's current position does not necessarily deal directly with sustainability, the OS and the OS's professional events such as the Green Careers Panel have shown her how she can infuse sustainability in roles where it may not be as obviously applicable. It’s also great to see how sustainability is implemented and integrated within Electric Boat, which is a larger corporate operation. For example, there are recycled cardboard lunch trays and employee trainings that focus on waste reduction and maintenance and environmental health precautions. These may seem like small actions, but they can compound and be a part of creating system wide change. Major: Mechanical Engineering '25

Today, General Dynamics Electric Boat, alongside Eastconn Manufacturing Company, had the pleasure of visiting OSK! Eastconn showcased their mobile manufacturing lab, while Electric Boat provided engaging STEM activities. The youth explored hands-on experiences with 3D printing, welding, virtual welding, manufacturing, production, and submarines. Additionally, we were treated to two performances by the OSK dance and theater group!

Calling everyone! There’s only a few days left to register for the July session of our “Boat for Everyone” program. If you’re thinking about a career in the #trades, this is the perfect opportunity to explore what a manufacturing career at General Dynamics Electric Boat has to offer. This session will take place on July 16 at Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School and July 18 at the Westerly Education Center. Our first two sessions of Boat Camp have been a huge success! In June, 42 students embarked on a comprehensive journey, exploring local attractions such as Mystic Aquarium, The Nautilus Museum, The Mystic Seaport, and engaging in many activities along the way. We extend our gratitude to our partners through the Anchor Program at University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, and Build Submarines for helping us bring Boat Camp to life and providing our students an insightful look into the maritime & shipbuilding industry!
