North Carolina’s Research Triangle—linking Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham—has emerged as one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in the U.S. With access to top-tier talent from renowned universities like University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University, paired with a low cost of living and a pro-business environment, it's no wonder tech giants like Meta, Apple, and Amazon are investing billions here. #RDU #Innovation #UNC #ResearchTrianglePark #CNBC CNBC

New research highlights how delegation can enhance—or sometimes hinder—employee engagement. This #HBR article suggests how to delegate effectively. What is your delegation strategy? #ThoughtLeadership #Team #Delegation #EmployeeEngagement Roy Zwahlen Hayley Blunden Mary Steffel

Delegation: A double-edged sword? Interesting new research revealing that delegating decisions can improve or strain engagement of your employees. How do you delegate effectively? Authors suggest: 1. Focus on delegating decisions with positive outcomes (e.g. who get's bonuses) 2. Align with employee roles (e.g. is this their job or yours?) 3. Limit consequences to the delegate (e.g. when it primarily affects themselves) Thoughtful delegation engages teams while preserving trust. #LeadershipInsights #EffectiveDelegation #TeamEngagement Great HRB article and research by Hayley Blunden and Mary Steffel

#ICYMI We’re excited about the PowerUp initiative, created by Eshelman Innovation with support from the Humana Foundation to empower communities historically underserved and underrepresented by the U.S. healthcare system. To address challenges around food insecurity in the Black community, PowerUp partnered with the country’s largest #HBCU, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Through the N.C. A&T Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, PowerUp tapped faculty and student expertise for possible solutions. One idea that emerged came from Ashlie Thomas, CSM, LSSBB, gardener, advocate, tech entrepreneur and NC A&T graduate. Ashlie is developing TerraLink, a digital technology platform that uses AI to help fill the gaps between food production and distribution and health and nutrition education. Today marks International Overdose Awareness Day (#IOAD2024), a global campaign to end overdose. In North Carolina, the numbers are devastating: * Five people die from opioid overdoses every day in our state. * More people die from opioid overdoses than car crashes. * From 2000-2022, more than 36,000 North Carolinians lost their lives to drug overdose. Eshelman Innovation is working hard to tackle the opioid epidemic and reduce overdose deaths, starting right here in North Carolina. Thank you to our partners: Mountain Area Health Education Center - MAHEC, North Carolina Collaboratory, High Alpha Innovation and Amazon Web Services (AWS). One product of our efforts is Goldie Health, an overdose prevention platform born out of the Eshelman Innovation Venture Studio. The work is supported by generous funding from the North Carolina Collaboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with funding appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly. #TogetherWeCan #EndOverdose

Great insight from Roy Zwahlen on JLL's 2024 research highlights. #Raleigh ranks 8th globally in innovation talent concentration, according to Innovation Geographies 2024. However, we're 21st in overall innovation output. With North Carolina also ranking high in business climate, workforce training, and EV investments, the question is: how can we harness our talent to boost innovation? #NorthCarolina #NC #research #innovation #thoughtleadership

A few highlights about Raleigh's innovation landscape from recent reports: Innovation Geographies 2024 reveals that Raleigh ranks 8th globally in innovation talent concentration. However, it sits at 21st in overall innovation output. For comparison, New York ranks 5th in innovation but 24th in talent. The report points to remote work allowing talent to relocate to more affordable and lifestyle-oriented cities like Raleigh. The question we should consider is: how can we leverage our talent to enhance our innovation capabilities? Additionally, the Business Facilities' 2024 Rankings Report highlights several key achievements for North Carolina: #2 in Best Business Climate #4 in Best Corporate Tax Climate #9 in Foreign Direct Investment #8 in Customized Workforce Training #3 in Electric Vehicle Investments #5 in Life Sciences Leaders #5 in Fastest Growing Population These rankings reflect our potential as a hub for innovation and growth. With our strong talent pool and favorable business environment, there are significant opportunities to elevate Raleigh's position in the innovation landscape. Any thoughts on how we can capitalize on these strengths and drive further innovation in our community? https://lnkd.in/eS_E5mEi #RaleighInnovation #EconomicDevelopment #WorkforceDevelopment
