📖 We have a story to share! In #Barcelona, the renovation of the mediaeval garden of the historical Santa Maria de Pedralbes monastery goes beyond bringing back a green space, serving as a catalyst for social inclusion & #sustainability. Involving a wide array of expertise – from history & archaeology to biology & botany – the project ensures the renovated garden recreates the look and crops from the mediaeval era as closely as possible 🌽 🥒 It provides an opportunity to learn about traditional agriculture & eating habits, while creating a dialogue between historical & natural #heritage 🌿 👥 The garden is maintained by people with disabilities, who can help themselves to the harvest. Any surplus food is donated to social canteens, ensuring zero food waste. A study has shown the project enhances the physical & emotional well-being of participants, associated with more autonomy, creativity, healthier nutrition & better sleep. The proximity of the staff to the space, as well as the use of bikes, keeps the carbon footprint to a minimum 🚲 Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dc9tG227 #SharingLocalStories Barcelona City Council

We are back from our peer-learning visit in Glasgow full of enthusiasm & ideas! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Over the past three days, 20 heritage experts from all over Europe came together to explore the vibrant Glaswegian #heritage scene & exchange valuable knowledge from their own local contexts 💭 Day 1️⃣ Our visit started with a city tour of Glasgow’s unique built heritage & its magnificent City Chambers. We learnt about the city’s story of regeneration from post-industrial decline, a transformation led by #culture. Cllr Richard Bell welcomed participants warmly 💬 "We're so pleased to share our cultural & heritage gems with you & our other European friends & neighbours." Day 2️⃣ We headed to the Southside of the city to visit Pollok Country Park. Our first stop was The Burrell Collection, an award-winning museum which reopened in 2022 after a five-year refurbishment. Community engagement was key to the redevelopment, making it a museum created by people, for people, with #sustainability, innovation, & #accessibility at its core 🖼 👥 A 10-minute walk through the park (with a short stop to say 👋 to the highland cows) brought us to the Pollok Stables & Sawmill - one of the 10 local practices selected by the Hub in March 2024. This in-progress redevelopment of a formerly derelict A-listed heritage asset seeks to create a #NetZero Living Heritage Centre, showing how traditional methods can blend with modern solutions for a more sustainable future🐴 🌿 Day 3️⃣ We heard from participants about the many innovative projects they are involved in, as well as the opportunities & challenges they face in their local contexts. Together, we brainstormed solutions that can work across the board 🤝 It was a pleasure to have Baillie Annette Christie with us throughout the entirety of the visit & for closing remarks 💬 "As we gear up to Glasgow’s 850th anniversary, being chosen by the Hub as one of 10 leading European cities for innovative cultural practices is yet another important accolade & milestone." The mission of the Hub is to connect, share, & strengthen heritage across Europe 🏛 Our peer-learning visit to Glasgow has been fundamental to this goal. A huge thanks to the team at Glasgow City Council & Glasgow Life for their hospitality, enthusiasm, & commitment, & a big round of applause to all our brilliant participants! 👏 A more detailed recap to follow soon, stay tuned for more opportunities to connect & engage with the Hub 👉 https://lnkd.in/e-5VFKfT

We are thrilled to be in Glasgow for the first peer-learning visit of the European Heritage Hub, with 20 participants from across Europe! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Glasgow City Council was among the 10 selected submissions from the Hub’s recent open call for local good practices, having presented its Pollok Stables & Sawmill Refurbishment project - a prime example of how #heritage can contribute to the green, digital & social transformation of our society 🌿 The conservation & redevelopment of the Stables & Sawmill complex aims to create a new Living Heritage Centre at the heart of #PollokPark, labelled as a centrepiece of Glasgow City Council’s #NetZero strategy. We also look forward to visiting the Burrell Collection, winner of the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2023 Award for its efforts to create the most accessible, inclusive, & sustainable decorative arts museum, following a five-year renovation project completed in 2022 🖼 Today we enjoyed a fascinating city tour of Glasgow's built heritage & history, followed by an engaging kick-off session, tour & civic reception in the magnificent City Chambers 🏛 Stay tuned for more! #SharingLocalStories

📖 We have a story to share! Do you know Tumo Center for Creative Technologies? As part of a recent open call for local good practices, we selected its 3D scanning & Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping project of Armenian #heritage 🇦🇲 Using photogrammetry, drones & laser scanning, TUMO recreates #digital versions of historical sites 🏛 Over 200 monuments have been digitised so far. GIS mapping also gives a better understanding of the territory for the rehabilitation spaces & future developments. Involving students, the project also helps build skills among the Armenian youth. The practice is a true example of how technology can help preserve & revitalise #heritage, making it more accessible, strengthening research & connecting communities 🤝 We were lucky to hear first-hand from TUMO during our latest #SharingLocalStories webinar 👥 A recording of the event & key takeaways is available here 📹 Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dZ8Jqtyc Photos © Tumo Center for Creative Technologies
