Financial support for families facing cancer

About us

Treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food on their tables to survive. If a family can’t meet these basic needs, cancer treatment takes a back seat. Family Reach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with patients, providers, and community organizations to challenge the systems that force families to choose between their health and their home. Together, we’re making financial treatment a standard of cancer care.

People get diagnosed with cancer. People with jobs, families, and busy lives. Yesterday at Reuters Pharma and Patient USA, we brought Raquel, Michael, Joe, and Nicole on stage to share how cancer upends peoples' lives, forcing them to miss work, skip rent payments, and question if they can afford the gas to their care centers each week. Their stories remind us that treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food in their fridges to survive cancer. Thank you to this powerful team for their honesty and vulnerability. Together, we can build a world where every person facing cancer can meet their basic needs.💜💚

Over 300,000 people are facing cancer in the states impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Like their neighbors, they are trying to rebuild, source food, and repair water-damaged vehicles. Family Reach is working directly with our network of oncology professionals in those areas to determine where our support is needed and do what we can to help patients maintain access to treatment. 🩵 If you've been looking for a way to help, this is your sign. Give today, and your donation will directly support patients impacted by the devastation: https://bit.ly/402lEcD

This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, understanding the financial hardship of a diagnosis is critical to spreading awareness about research, screenings, and treatment access. 🩷 We must ensure patients can afford their basic needs first and foremost — our data shows that people with #breastcancer face higher rates of food, utility, and housing insecurity than other cancer types. 🩷 Join us in uplifting the voices and stories of those affected by breast cancer. Together, we can work toward a world where no one has to worry about empty fridges or missed phone bills while facing the emotional and physical challenges of cancer.

"Where does someone work after they had a bone-marrow transplant and they have a brand new immune system?" ➡️ Thousands of people ask themselves questions like this as they juggle their career and cancer — The Wall Street Journal shared a few of their stories. ➡️ Every minute focused on financial stress is a minute not focused on healing. Until policies and systems shift, nonprofits will play the critical role of filling in the gaps.

As people assess property damages, navigate through flooded streets, and wait for their power to be restored, the barriers to accessing cancer care are greater than ever. 💜💚 We have to show up for the people behind the diagnosis, especially in times like these. Thank you ASCO for sharing these resources!

We often say that cancer treatment requires more than medicine — a phrase that was beautifully reflected at this year's American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Quality Care Symposium. #ASCOQLTY24 💡 Patient experiences were in the spotlight, sparking discussions on financial toxicity, health related social needs, and the importance of resource navigation. 💡 Our very own Andrea Incudine, MPH, Senior Director of Operations and Data, unveiled our latest findings on metastatic colorectal cancer's impact on quality of life, in partnership with Takeda, BLKHLTH, Colontown, and Colorectal Cancer Alliance. 💡 Andrea also shared our research on solutions for addressing food shortages in collaboration with Dr. Evan Graboyes, Assistant Professor at Medical University of South Carolina, and Alejandro Marrero-Gonzalez, Clinical Research Fellow of Otolaryngology at Medical University of South Carolina and one of this year's winners of the Conquer Cancer Award! 📍 The financial burdens of cancer can affect anyone, anywhere — even your own neighborhood. We partner with treatment centers and organizations nationwide to ensure equitable access to financial support during cancer care. 💜 Together, we ensure that no patient has to face the financial burden of cancer alone, no matter their location.

🥗 Healthcare teams often recommend special diets for people facing cancer, yet many don't have room in the budget. 💬 "I can't afford to buy my normal monthly food with my food stamps and purchase 90 protein shakes like my doctor recommended," shared Michael, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. 💡 As we work toward a future where cancer is no longer linked to financial hardships like #foodinsecurity , emerging solutions like in-house food pantries are stepping up address the gaps.
