Did you know we have U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) representation across all 6 Boards in the Eastern Region, including Baltimore, Boston, Newark, New York City, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia? HUDs presence on our Boards plays a crucial role in fostering federal partnerships, which was highlighted during last month’s FEB Eastern Region “Fostering Friday” session featuring RA Juana B. Matias During these presentations, we invite federal leaders to share their agency’s mission and objectives with our team, helping us to identify key issues and build awareness for more effective collaboration. The FEBs consistently strive to create opportunities to discover how we can most successfully support the federal agencies we partner with. Thank you again, RA Juana Matias, for discussing HUD’s essential work with us. As RA Matias emphasized during her presentation, “we really cannot do this work alone… these kinds of partnerships are essential to us reaching our customers and getting communities connected with our resources.” We look forward to working with HUD on future initiatives and applying our enhanced understanding of their mission and objectives to help them achieve their goals. Last week, Stephen Millen, our Program Director for the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Federal Executive Boards (FEBs), hosted the outstanding “Leadership: Beyond the Battle" executive leadership training program in Gettysburg, PA. 👏👏 The program brought together Federal employees in the FEB Eastern Region to experience the heroic stories of soldiers, and the harrowing experiences of civilians caught in the crossfire of the Civil War battle of Gettysburg. By visiting the sacred ground and engaging with the lessons of shared past, participants gained new insights into effective communication, strategic planning, and teamwork. Although decisions made during the Battle of Gettysburg occurred more than 160 years ago, 21st-century leaders can still learn from historical examples of communication, strategic planning, and team building that have stood the test of time. Our Philadelphia and Pittsburgh FEBs, like the other Boards nationwide, work to facilitate interagency training opportunities that support workforce and leadership development. In addition to discussing the military leaders at Gettysburg, “Leadership: Beyond the Battle" also provided lessons from ordinary civilians who took on extraordinary responsibility during and after the battle. Thank you to the NY and NJ Federal Executive Boards for hosting an outstanding interagency exercise that brought together over 30 federal, state and local agencies! Special thanks to Anthony Lordo Jr., CPP, CPD Lordo Jr., CPP, CPD Thomas Carter Alejandro De La Campa Doug Heath (Pauly Walnuts) for their leadership in organizing this impactful event. Thank you also to the Eastern Region FEB staff and my colleagues at Office of Management and Budget and FEMA Region 2 The exercise highlighted the importance of collaboration across all levels of government. Representatives from numerous federal agencies worked alongside partners from the NYC Mayor's Office, NYPD, FDNY and state agencies to tackle complex scenarios. Seeing everyone come together reinforced that no single agency can address major challenges alone - it truly takes a whole community approach. We also saw the power of community and collaboration when we visited the 9/11 Memorial. This was especially moving. It served as a powerful reminder of how federal, state and local entities united in the face of unimaginable tragedy. That same spirit of cooperation was on full display during the exercise. By strengthening relationships and sharing expertise, the FEB is enhancing preparedness across our region. Interagency exercises like this one are critical for building resilience. Thank you again to the NY and NJ FEB, and to all the agencies and individuals who participated. Your commitment to collaboration is making our communities safer and stronger.
