Baku and COP29 Azerbaijan here we come. As Margaret Mead says so brilliantly: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." With this being labelled as the finance COP, we are excited to host our annual COP dinner with MSCI Inc. bringing together the leading women in climate, business and finance on Finance Day. We know there has been a lot of talk about whether or not people are going to COP29 for various valid reasons. While it is easy to get caught up in this discourse, at Fin-Erth we believe that being in the room matters. These moments enable humans to learn from each other, explore deal flow and create connections. These moments encourage collaboration and can inspire action. These moments are where solutions unlock. For us, it is about the consistency of showing up. Margaret Mead reminds us that it's not the group size that matters, it's the output. We are excited to see those coming to COP, building trust and keeping humanity front and centre. Serena O. With just 5 days left to nominate for the Fin-Erth Women in Climate Awards, we wanted to share a few quotes from some of our sponsors and nominating partners to remind you all WHY these awards recognizing and supporting women in business, finance and innovation are so important. "The representation of women founders in India is generally low, and within the climate sector, it's almost negligible. We are deeply committed to changing this narrative by actively supporting initiatives that empower and elevate female founders and leaders in the climate space and so are proud to be a nominating partner for the Fin-Erth Women in Climate Awards" Saksham B. Priya Shah The Sustainability Mafia "At Nairobi Climate Network, we see firsthand that while women-led businesses make up a significant portion of our membership, there are still critical barriers when it comes to recognition and support. As a nominating partner for the Fin-Erth Climate Awards, we are committed to shining a spotlight on the exceptional work of female founders and women-led initiatives within our network. These awards provide a platform to empower and elevate their contributions, ensuring that the women who are driving climate solutions receive the recognition and support they deserve to continue making an impact." Nairobi Climate Network Flavia Howard "Africa is on the front lines of the climate crisis, and the leadership of women in this space is crucial for driving sustainable solutions that resonate globally. At Women Who Build Africa, we are proud to support the Fin-Erth Women in Climate Awards, which highlight the powerful role women play in addressing the climate crisis. Our community is composed of trailblazing founders who are creating impactful solutions, operators who are executing these visions, and investors who believe in the future of African-led climate initiatives. Together, we are committed to amplifying the voices and impact of African women on the global stage." Women Who Build Africa "Supporting The Fin-Erth Climate Awards is deeply meaningful to us because we know firsthand the incredible impact that women can have when they step up to address climate challenges. Around the globe, women in business and finance are creating innovative solutions and pushing boundaries to build a more sustainable world. Yet, too often, their contributions go unnoticed. — Christine Amour-Levar Helena Wasserman Investors for Climate "Celebrating women pioneers in mining is about more than recognition—it's about acknowledging the groundbreaking innovations they bring to a traditionally male-dominated industry. The Fin-Erth Women in Climate Awards will only enhance this narrative and push the needle towards a more sustainable future.” Prospect Innovation Donna Kitsos Vivek Salgaocar Now together let's identify and shine a spotlight on the women from across the world who deserve the recognition! 🌎 Nominate Here: https://lnkd.in/eqMwM3r7

The 'Missing Middle': Why We Need Another Awards Programme Our Awards focus on what we internally call ‘the missing middle’. When we were identifying women to invite to our COP28 dinner, we started looking at the different climate and sustainability awards out there for inspiration, and we noticed a few things… A glaring gap. It wasn’t really a glaring gender gap because we believe most awards programmes have done a fantastic job of ensuring gender diversity. What was missing for us was the cohort of women getting the work done often in unglamorous but mission-critical sectors. The women behind the scenes who were not speaking on every panel; those who aren't celebrities or high-profile politicians. The women who are, in fact, crunching the data to ensure a bank can deploy capital to an energy transition project, the women who are battling boards every single day to ensure sustainability remains on the agenda, the women innovating in large companies enabling a solution to come to fruition and making their company one step closer to net-zero, or the tenacious women building companies to solve a specific climate problem. This awards programme is for them. The ‘worker-she’s’ who are not often recognised publicly for their incredible contribution to unlocking climate solutions and whose work is creating change at scale. We visualise it as following the shape of a standard deviation graph… On one side you have the grass roots activists who do amazing work (we internally call them the early adopters) and on the other side there are ‘the big names,’ often household names, - those who get air time for their contribution. But the honest truth is: we need everyone. The Fin-Erth Awards are for the those in the middle. Without their graft, determination and resilience, we believe that very little of the positive progress being made would happen. So… a call to nominate. Who are the women you know who are getting the work done? Who are the women you work with, collaborate with, admire who are using business and finance to help move us towards a better climate future? Who are the women in big corporates who are not getting the recognition they deserve? Nominate them now! https://lnkd.in/eqMwM3r7 #finerthawards #unlockingsolutions #finerth #womeninclimate

Tim Harford's brilliant book, Messy, is a great companion for the whirlwind of New York Climate Week. It reminds us that stepping away from day-to-day structure can be good for the soul, good for business and good for unlocking our brains. His evidence shows that "creativity, excitement and humanity lie in the messy parts of life, not the tidy ones." And by goodness, we need humanity, non-linear thinking and solutions perhaps now more than ever. The Fin-Erth dinner with UNICEF Innovation united over 40+ women working in the intersection of climate, innovation, enterprise and finance, breaking down the silos that usually exist. We are convinced that the care and attention invested in great humans coming together has to be part of tomorrow's story. Huge thanks to our partners Align Impact UNICEF Innovation Delta40 Venture Studio Ethic House for making this moment happen. The combined brains and souls of so many special women getting shit done is a sight to behold. And as one guest Olivia Fleming Flemming stated to us after: "This is how men get deals done—being in the room with decision-makers, funders, and executives—rooms that have long been shut off from women. Until now. Thank you Fin-Erth." Especially excited to support the two amazing UNICEF Innovation fellows Noemi Florea and Clarabeth Concaret and their climate endeavors. #finerth #communitynotconference #unlockingsolutions #womeninclimate Kristie Cole Ali Motroni Patty Alleman Sidee Dlamini Lyndsay Holley Handler Eleonora G. With the insanity of NY Climate Week behind us, we have spent some time reflecting on the Unlocking Solutions Awards Uplift breakfast we held last week with our nominating partners, our core sponsors, media partners and supporters. A few of the many important points we took away from the conversation include: - The importance of celebrating and shining a spotlight on the women who are behind the scenes tempered by the challenge of how to reach these people and ensure they get nominated - With all the amazing new talent coming into climate, ensuring that those who have been working tirelessly throughout the years are also recognized - It's is often easier to identify the startups and scaleups led by women, but what about those in corporates and large institutions? How do we raise and support these women? - We know that through collaboration and that by bringing together great humans, there is a greater chance of creating meaningful unlocks. Trust is built in the room. Thank you to Doconomy Mathias Wikström for supporting not just the breakfast, but the vision behind the Awards and for being so supportive of the amazing women getting the work done. Enormous thanks also to Ethic House, in particular, Jay Lipman and Lily Louis for hosting us all, and Gail Gallie and @imogen for your support and work behind the scenes. Thank you to our awards sponsors S2G Ventures, L'Oréal and MSCI Sustainability Institute and all of our nominating partners. It was great to see so many of you in the room last week. As you all go back to your incredibly busy lives, we want to leave you with two thoughts: Firstly, being at these global moments is a great reminder that we need to go about our work and business with kindness Secondly, please nominate the women you think deserve recognition. We all know so many people so let's put a spotlight on them! During COP28 Serena O. met Stephanie Asgill and were chatting about the incredible women in climate working in the UAE (and around the world) and how we should all come together to build on the momentum generated during COP28. On Tuesday, that conversation became a reality. We are so proud to have joined forces with Dubai Holding and have loved working alongside Huda Buhumaid Stephanie Asgill, Johanna Salem and Malaika Fernandes to bring together 80+ UAE-based women in climate and sustainability across different climate verticals: to breakdown silos; listen; learn and build connections with those in climate who otherwise wouldn't have met. This is the first of hopefully many joint events as we work together towards building a strong climate community. #finerth #community #unlockingsolutions #climate #womeninclimate
