This week, a team of four welders from Fincantieri Marinette Marine took third place in the first annual Welding Rodeo at the NWTC-Marinette campus on October 9. The team included Joe Seymour, Dillon Wilczynski, Jacob Strahl, and Scott Guns. 🎉 The team produced an impressive sculpture of a deer and rifle, and FMM employees, including Ship Area Manager Jordan Kinney, were also present to take part in the midday career fair.   Kinney, who handpicked each participant for the welding competition, acknowledged the importance of community partnerships and engagements like this one, saying, "I feel it is important for our employees and company to show our support to our youth and our skilled labor force. It was great to not only have the NWTC folks there, but also the high school students that were able to see various local companies, including FMM, competing with one another. We also had the opportunity to represent what we do for a living each day in the shipyard. It was great to see the teamwork and combined group efforts that come out of events like this. I would like to see more of this in the years to come.”   Kinney’s remarks echo the spirit of what it truly means to bring the future on board. Thank you and a job well done to NWTC and all those who participated! 👏 Northeast Wisconsin Technical College #Fincantieri #FutureOnBoard #WisconsinJobs #Manufacturing

Hello, University of Michigan! 👋 We are pleased to announce our partnership with the University of Michigan to offer a multidisciplinary project opportunity to students in 2025. Recently, Gabriele Librandi, Fincantieri Marine Group's University & Research Institute Manager, visited the Ann Arbor campus to introduce the program. For one year, students will work as a team to analyze the effects of the bulbous bow shape on fuel efficiency and design a reconfigurable bow that reduces drag under variable speeds and sea conditions. Throughout their work, they will receive mentorship from Fincantieri subject matter experts, including Librandi himself, as well as Ross Kanzleiter, Chief Operating Officer of Fincantieri Marinette Marine, and Francesco G., Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Fincantieri Marine Group. Librandi emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “I think that young students are thirsty for knowledge, they look for challenges, and they love being busy. With these programs we encourage students to get out of their comfort zones! We encourage them to try, fail, try again and feel accomplished and satisfied about what they are doing and their hard work. Students get the unique opportunity to enter the research realm in a "soft" way thanks to our guidance and support. They get exposed to something new and they acquire the right skillset that will allow them to succeed in a very competitive environment like the shipbuilding industry.” One more initiative to bring the future generation of shipbuilders on board! On September 25th, five talented trainees from Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding showcased their skills at the first Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Welding Rodeo in Sturgeon Bay, WI.   Adan Lopez, Jonathan Jilot, Jesse Moeller, Truvoy Sampson, and Blake Bowen competed with other teams and industrial artists to design and weld the most impressive project in just one day. The creations were then auctioned off, with proceeds supporting NWTC scholarships.   Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding was a proud partner for the event, which also featured a STEM-based career fair, music, food trucks, and a virtual welding simulation booth. Chris Nielsen, Talent Acquisition Strategist for FMG, noted “We strive to create a platform for skill development, networking, and showcasing the latest advancements in welding technology. Additionally, we aim to draw interest to the welding industry, highlighting its importance and potential career opportunities at our yards. This event offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the diverse career paths in welding and the remarkable craftsmanship of our local welders."   We are deeply appreciative of our valued partners, like NWTC as well as our talented and hardworking past, present, and future employees. We boast a proud shipbuilding legacy both internationally and domestically. Our parent company, FINCANTIERI S.p.A., stands as the largest shipbuilder in Europe with over 230 years of industry expertise. Our U.S. maritime heritage is equally as impressive. Fincantieri Marinette Marine, founded in 1942, has built over 1,500 vessels, and Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding has been constructing ships in Wisconsin since 1918. Our rich history allows us to offer opportunities and best practices that are unparalleled. 💪 🛳 #Fincantieri #Shipbuilding #WisconsinShipbuilding #FutureOnBoard

Last week, John Krueger, Chief of Shipyard Operations at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, was the keynote speaker at the SSI World Shipbuilding Conference – Americas in Biloxi, Mississippi. The event hosted shipbuilding professionals and industry partners for three days of impactful discussions, networking opportunities, and insightful presentations. Krueger’s thirty-five years in the shipbuilding industry lent itself to a successful speech that provided important key takeaways, including the role of shipbuilders as a silent partner. Krueger noted, “I really drove home the importance of building great ships for the Navy in today’s world with all the attacks and other things going on in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.” Additionally, Krueger offered valuable insights into industry challenges as well as Fincantieri’s history and vision. Krueger’s presence at the event served as a powerful reminder of why the work we do is so important, why our people are our most valuable and appreciated strength, and why we strive each day to bring the future on board. #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #ShipCon #SSIWSC2024AMERICAS #FutureOnBoard

We’ve hit the road to discuss all things Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering! Recently, Scott Wellens, Fincantieri Marinette Marine VP of Engineering and Gabriele Librandi, Fincantieri Marine Group University & Research Institute Manager visited the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hobokan, NJ and three other New York/New Jersey area schools.    While at Stevens, Wellens and Librandi hosted a “Lunch & Learn” where Wellens spoke to students about the innovative and engaging opportunities our organization offers. Wellens said “I met several dozen students that were enthusiastic about helping the nation to build a world class Frigate! They were interested in internships and what they could do for us after graduation. It’s great to get to the source and share my experiences as they embark on their careers." We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such reputable institutions and hope to reinforce a passion for maritime and shipbuilding work in the hearts and minds of the incoming generation as we work together to bring the future on board.   #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #NavalArchitecture #Engineering #FutureOnBoard
