📦 Did you know paper and paperboard based material are one of the earliest and largest used packaging forms for food products? * paper wrapping for food and teas dates back centuries. * In 1915, an Ohio company debuted folded milk cartons. * After the industrial age, paper flexible packaging became widely used for grocery products, beverages, dry powders, confectionary, and bakery. * Circularity, ESG and Regulatory requirements have led to large shifts to paperization * The paper packaging market size in 2023 was $164.04b USD, expected to grow to $259b USD by 2030, representing a 6.8% CAGR. As Printpack notes: "With easily accessible methods like curbside and the strong consumer perception of sustainable packaging, paper is the most widely recycled type of packaging, and the fiber recycling stream has the most robust infrastructure of any recycling stream in North America. There are also options for compostable and reusable packs, while still maintaining the flexibility, sturdiness, and easy printing benefits of paper." #flexiblepackaging #paperandpulp #sustainable #papernotplastic #frozenfoodpackaging #BetterMicrowaveFood #ClimateTech #greensolutions #CPG #UNSDG #DeliveringBetter #Recyclable #Renewable #DropInSolution Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e4qGBnBF Paper packaging market data: https://lnkd.in/gqm3iztN

Last week the UMaine Process Development Center produced about 700 pounds (dry weight) of highly refined cellulose (or cellulose nanofiber) suitable for food contact applications. Following current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), the PDC was pleased to produce this material for CapaTec Inc. Sean Ireland, CEO and Co-founder of CapaTec, as well as the PDC's technology partner Valmet, were on site for this inaugural run. The PDC can now serve clients that wish to provide highly refined cellulose, or cellulose nanofiber, to the food, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries. #Umaineinnovates #sustainablematerials #pulpandpaper #GMP

Thank you, Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), for hosting a great conversation about the trade-offs we encounter when using fiber-based packaging!
The #paperization trend is only growing, and companies are moving towards renewable fiber alternatives. In their panel discussion, Brad Kurzynowski, Sabrina Dixon-Ridges, Caroline DeLoach, and Devin Giles discussed the many challenges, learnings, and benefits when it comes to alternative fiber packaging. As Caroline voiced, "It's easier to start with the more circular option and reduce its footprint over time than to start with the lower footprint option and improve its circularity." #SPCAdvance #SPCAdvance2024 #Chicago #FurtherAndFaster

Lucky to be attending a very Burlington VT unconference with great fireside chats about real world packaging challenges from people like Sebastien Bregeaud’s seaweed barrier coating for paper and Bridget Croke about venture building for reusable cups.
Build a roadmap to changing our relationship with packaging at the next flagship gathering on September 17th-19th. 📦 Led by industry-leading designer Brandi Parker, and created in partnership with industry drivers Atlantic Packaging, the packaging track will gather an interdisciplinary crew to develop a roadmap outlining barriers, opportunities, and key insights for transforming the industry’s relationship with packaging. Can we unlearn our habit of expecting convenience in everything, knowing it often leads to more waste? Can we design toward a new convenience that coexists with sustainability? Or, is there a new way to think about our roles in industry and our relationship to packaging? Learn and grow alongside some incredible minds on the packaging track! We’re currently at capacity for our placemaking and packaging tracks, and have limited seats left for the space tech track, but head to our site to register, show interest for our next event, or get on the waitlist for this one.
