Thank you to MSI Reproductive Choices for hosting such an amazing event. Proud to say we #ChooseChoice.
Last night, at our United Nations General Assembly and Summit of the Future event with the Government of Canada, Government of Nepal (GoN), SheDecides, FP2030 and Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH), we asked leaders to #ChooseChoice. Thank you to all of our partners and friends who attended. In the face of the global anti-rights movement, there was energy and defiance in the room, as speakers at the event shared why they #ChooseChoice ⤵️ - Hon. Madam Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal: "Choosing choice will save lives. That's why we have defended the right to abortion." - Hon. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada: “We should never take our rights for granted, continuing this important march towards progress.” - Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, Minister of International Development of Norway: "We are in this together for future generations." - Lotte Machon, State Secretary for Development Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark: "I choose choice because I fear a world without it, where our daughters would grow up without the dignity and respect they deserve." - Loyce Pace (Loyce P.), Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS): "The decisions we make in the US have a ripple effect and can strip away rights around the world." - Chris Carter, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, speaking on behalf of the UK Minister for Africa: “Access to sexual and reproductive health services increases choices, supports education, and transforms lives and livelihoods.” - Aparajita Ramakrishnan, Director of Family Planning, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: "Women are done waiting. Access to contraception is catalytic, it pays off and pays forward - women, communities, nations, economies, all depend on women having choice." - Miles Kemplay, Executive Director SRHR, Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF): “The compelling case for investing in contraception and safe abortion is matched by compelling solutions. Solutions that are scalable, deliver immense impact, and are cost-effective.” - Dr. Hans Kluge, European Regional Director, World Health Organization: "Without sexual and reproductive health and rights, there can be no universal health coverage and no gender equality." - Dr Samukeliso Dube, Executive Director, FP2030: "Because choice is on the ballot, and we cannot go backwards. We must accelerate progress." - Simon Cooke, CEO, MSI Reproductive Choices: “The anti-rights movement wants to take decisions away from women and put them in the hands of politicians. We're taking on the opposition, online, in court rooms and outside our clinics, and we're winning. By focusing on the things within our control, we can make a quantifiable difference.” ⭐ We look forward to turning these commitments into action. Together, we can #ChooseChoice. #UNGA #ChoiceWeek

🌟 We continue the celebration tomorrow with a webinar on the topic, Braving Barriers: Bold commitments to family planning in Africa. Interesting to note that, In a world where young people are constantly evolving, there are an unprecedented 1.8 billion people between the ages of 10 and 24. In sub-Saharan Africa, young people make up the largest proportion of the population (32%), more than a third of the total. The African continent is the only region in the world where the number of young people continues to grow significantly. There is therefore the need to rapidly reduce the birth rate to promote human capital formation (education and health). To achieve a demographic dividend, fertility must be brought under control and the continent must embark on a contraceptive revolution, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Register and take part in this trivial discussion on braving barriers: bold commitments to family planning in Africa. Date: September 27, 2024 Time: 11 Am WAT Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/eBBSmx8v
