🌱 Synthetic Natures as Architecture w. Winka Dubbeldam 🌱 Winka Dubbeldam, the Dutch-American architect and founder of Archi-Tectonics, is reshaping the future of architecture in the Anthropocene era. As human activity profoundly impacts the environment, it’s becoming increasingly clear that our structures must evolve to address the pressing challenges of climate change and sustainability. Drawing inspiration from the concept of “Hopeful Monsters”—organisms that adapt and evolve through significant mutations—Dubbeldam suggests that architecture can learn from plant intelligence. Plants possess an innate ability to react to environmental stresses, adapt, and enhance their phytoremediation capabilities. What if buildings could do the same? 🏛️ Instead of simply incorporating greenery into static structures, architecture must evolve into ‘Synthetic Natures’—adaptive, intelligent systems that interact with their environment, fostering resilience and positive environmental impact.
