September is Animal Pain Awareness Month, and we’re shining a light on a condition that impacts so many of our beloved pets—osteoarthritis (OA). OA is a degenerative, progressive, and debilitating disease-causing inflammation and pain related to the joint capsule, synovium (joint lining), and cartilage. Other clinical signs in dogs and cats include reduced range of motion, behavioral changes, pain on palpation, accidents in the house due to lack of mobility, inability to jump, and changes in stance. OA may affect any joint in the body. Most commonly if affects the larger joints such as the knee (stifle) or hips, but it can occur in smaller joints (elbow for example) as well as the joints of the spine. As advocates for our companions, it’s essential to recognize the signs of OA early and explore options that can help alleviate our pet’s discomfort and restore their joy. However, current options only address the clinical signs and do not change the course of the disease. Gallant Therapeutics is focused on bringing therapies that address the root cause of diseases like OA with the goal of not only increasing quality of life for our pets but also the time we have with them. It’s heartbreaking to know veterinarians are 3 to 5 times more likely to die by suicide than the general public. Veterinarians take such good care of our pets big and small, but the emotional toll of the job often gets overlooked. With September being National Suicide Prevention Month, it’s crucial to shine a light on this tragic reality. Want to learn more on how you can help yourself or someone else in veterinary medicine? We are excited to collaborate with ETHOS DISCOVERY on this study evaluating our canine allogeneic uterine-derived stem cells for delaying progression of NME in genetically predisposed pugs. There are many similarities between NME and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in people and it’s great to see stem cells showing promise for these devastating diseases in humans and dogs. #OneHealth #DogHealth #Canine #VeterinaryMedicine #StemCells #PetResearch #Pugs #PugLove
We have an exciting update on Waddles! He came in for his three-month checkup with Dr. Rebecca Windsor to ensure he is continuing to do well after stem cell treatments. The team is happy to report that he is doing fantastic and has no signs of progression with Pug Dog Encephalitis. Interested in enrolling your pug?
