Providing teacher training, lab equipment and career awareness to create a skilled life science workforce
About us
The Georgia BioEd Institute’s mission is to serve the life science industry by growing Georgia’s and the Southeast’s workforce through support of STEM education and life science career development. We reach the future workforce through K-12 teacher training, supporting hands-on learning by providing equipment and supplies to classrooms, and via university-to-industry programming to position college graduates for industry success. The Equipment Depot takes in consumables and equipment from life science companies around Georgia and distributes these supplies to teachers in order to enable hands-on learning and career awareness with students, leading to a stronger life science workforce. Please reach out if you have items that you would like to donate.

Last Saturday, we held a workshop at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville. One of our Master Instructors, Cythnia Greer, led a gel electrophoresis lab where teachers used gel data to construct a cladogram to show the evolutionary relationship between four bird species. Hannah Eisla, the School Programs Manager at Tellus, took us on a guided tour of the Fossil Gallery and demonstrated some classification activities that can be used during class field trips. Thanks to all who participated despite the weather—we hope to host this event again next year if there is enough interest!
