Gibbons proudly sponsored Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin’s 15th Annual Bowl for Hunger last night. Members of the firm’s #Government & #Regulatory Affairs Group participated in the event and had a great time while supporting Bowl for Hunger— an initiative dedicated to aiding food pantries serving New Jersey residents. NJ’s #foodpantries play a crucial role in providing essential support to individuals and families facing food insecurity, offering not just groceries but access to nutritious foods that might otherwise be out of reach. Pictured below (in their Gibbons bowling shirts!) are Gibbons attorneys David Pascrell, Chair of the Government & Regulatory Affairs Group, Courtney Johnson, Michael DeLoreto, Esq., and Paul St. Onge. Thank you Speaker Coughlin for hosting and supporting such a worthy cause.

On April 23, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor (#DOL) released a final rule, effective July 1, 2024, that increased the salary thresholds for the executive, administrative, professional, and highly compensated employees exemptions under the #FairLaborStandardsAct (#FLSA). This rule will require employers (except the State of Texas) to raise the salaries of #exempt #employees or reclassify those employees as #nonexempt. In this blog, Gibbons Director Richard Zackin and associate Catherine Soliman, both members of the firm’s #Employment & #Labor Group, outline the essential components of the final rule and potential impacts for employers under #federal and #state #wageandhour laws. In two highly anticipated decisions, the Unites State Supreme Court issued rulings that will dramatically impact the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) enforcement authority, making securities-fraud prosecutions markedly more difficult for the #SEC and altering the administrative state. In this Law Alert, Gibbons Director Samuel Portnoy and associate Stephen Marietta, both members of the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation Group and #Securities Team, explain why regulated entities will need to be much more vigilant with respect to new judicial interpretations of relevant statutes. As part of our #PrideMonth series, and as Pride Month comes to a close, we salute the New Jersey State Bar Association (#NJSBA) for its historical and unwavering support of #LGBTQ+ rights. New Jersey has been on the forefront of legislation that supports #civilrights, including #marriageequality, and legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community. The NJSBA champions #equalrights through its numerous #diversity programs, initiatives, and committees that demonstrate its strong commitment to promoting and fostering a #diverse and #inclusive bar association, such as the LGBTQ+ Rights Section, which addresses issues that are of importance to #lesbian, #gay, #bisexual, and #transgender people in the legal profession; advocates for and promotes the civil and human rights of the LGBTQ+ community; strives to improve access to justice for LGBTQ+ individuals; and works to advance professional opportunities for LGBTQ+ attorneys and judges.
