GFF exists to accelerate a cure for NF1 and grow opportunity and equity in Detroit and our home cities.
About us
The Gilbert Family Foundation is a private nonprofit foundation founded by philanthropists Dan and Jennifer Gilbert to address their two priorities and passions: accelerating a cure for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and transforming the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Foundation has embarked on two bold, high risk/high reward NF1 research initiatives: (1) the Gene Therapy Initiative (GTI), to develop curative therapies that address the underlying genetic abnormalities in NF1 patients, and (2) the Vision Restoration Initiative (VRI), inspired by their son’s loss of vision from NF1 and with a goal of advancing vision restoration therapies.

When we made our $500M joint philanthropic commitment with the Rocket Community Fund back in 2021 to build opportunity in #Detroit neighborhoods, we were doubling down on a core ISM or guiding principal: You'll See It When You Believe It. We believe in Detroit. We believe in our team members. And we believe the residents in our hometown deserve the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Learn more about our impact: https://lnkd.in/gufPzEeU
Our For More Than Profit approach is fundamental to Rocket Companies mission to help everyone home. We have a responsibility to the community, and it's this responsibility and our belief in a more equitable world that helps us break systemic barriers to access. Our Sr. Director of Marketing Communications, Rob Frappier, highlighted the philanthropic impact of our work in Detroit and across the nation to hundreds of power brokers partnering with Rocket Pro TPO. We want our partners to understand that our business and our communities are inextricably linked, and we have a responsibility to reinvest back into the community where we live, work and play. Because EVERYONE deserves a safe and stable home.

People are still talking about the 2024 #NFLDRAFT. Now they'll have even more to talk about, because of the new permanent exhibit we're supporting at the Detroit Historical Society, alongside Detroit Lions, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Visit Detroit! Opening to the public on August 24th, Gridiron Heroes offers something for everyone, celebrating the history of our team and our city, including... 🏈 Trophies from the 30’s and 50’s 🏈 Historic uniforms and a display featuring every Lions Hall of Fame player 🏈 Rarely seen Lions artifacts directly from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Detroit Lions’ archives 🏈 2024-2025 Game Day Uniforms Plus there will be opening day activities and more! As our Executive Director, Laura Grannemann, said, "There are few activities that bring people together like sports, which is why we’re so passionate about supporting this exciting new exhibit. It was an honor to play such a key role in the NFL Draft coming to Detroit and its success, both in downtown and across the neighborhoods. We know visitors will enjoy reliving some of those experiences through the creativity of the Detroit Historical Society.” Learn More: https://bit.ly/3SRJymV

The new Tireman-Minock Park is officially open! We were proud to support the completion of the Tireman-Minock Park yesterday alongside our Director of Public Spaces, JJ Vélez, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, and other partners and funders including representatives from City of Detroit, Invest Detroit and Huntington National Bank. The new Tireman-Minock Park is the former site of Dixon Elementary School which was demolished in 2017, leaving a 3.7-acre empty lot. Thanks to the Strategic Neighborhood Fund Initiative, we were able to come together to support the development of this park, featuring a playground, picnic shelter, walkways, fitness equipment and more. We're excited for residents to enjoy this amazing new community space! Learn More: https://bit.ly/4dBChzr

We're excited that The Kresge Foundation has joined as a funder for Seed & Bloom: Detroit! This program was co-created by the Gilbert Family Foundation and United States Artists to support Detroit-based BIPOC artists with the resources needed to turn their art into sustainable businesses. “We are thrilled to have The Kresge Foundation support the deep-rooted artistic talent across Detroit’s neighborhoods as a new partner with Seed and Bloom: Detroit. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurture the creative talent and entrepreneurial spirit of BIPOC artists, who are the heart and soul of our city’s cultural landscape. Because of Kresge’s investment, we can amplify funding and mentorship for artists whose work will have a lasting impact on our communities and contribute to a more equitable and vibrant Detroit for all.” --Laura Grannemann, Executive Director, Gilbert Family Foundation More: https://bit.ly/4dBoNUh

"I was inspired by the Gilbert Family Foundation’s strategic focus on uplifting Detroiters burdened by housing challenges by ensuring that economic growth and stability are intertwined with housing security. What motivated me the most about this position is the opportunity to play a critical role in advancing economic empowerment and equity in Detroit, and to make a tangible impact on the lives of Detroiters." We sat down to talk with Linda Nosegbe, who shared her vision as the new Director of our Economic Mobility team. Learn more about Linda and how her experience makes her uniquely suited for this role!
