Revo - Retail. Property. Community. has published its February update with a focus on recent planning activity from the UK government and what the outlook is for town centres across the country. Gleeds’ UK Head of Cost Management, Sara Boonham, contributed to the insights shared within this piece – you can learn more about the latest updates in the industry via the link below.

Revo Repurposing & Regeneration Committee: Latest Planning Update With the government ramping up its focus on economic growth and planning, our Repurposing & Regeneration Committee has been considering the impact on town centres. The government’s latest policy push—centred on ‘growth, growth, growth’—emphasises new housing and major infrastructure projects, but disappointingly, town centres remain a secondary focus. However, knock-on benefits may arise, particularly for areas like the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor. 🔎 What does this mean for the future of our high streets? We were pleased to work with Construction News to host a roundtable focusing on the challenges of delivering more nuclear power in the UK. There were some fantastic insights into inspiring the next generation of nuclear energy professionals, working together across the supply chain and how a strong pipeline of nuclear programmes can bolster energy security. With some ambitious net zero targets on the horizon for the UK, those around the table agreed that a combination of Government support and industry collaboration was vital to reaching the sector’s full potential. So...how old are we really? 🤔 Recently, we stumbled across a big piece of news. Huge in fact! So huge, it involves amending everything we’ve ever thought about Gleeds... it turns out we have even more history. For the last 100 years or so, #Gleeds had thought it was founded in 1885. All records traced back to bills of quantities for a small row of shops in Brixton in the late 1800s, but it seems, upon more recent historical research, we were in fact founded in 1875. Now, 10 years may not seem like a lot when you’re more than a century old, but it’s a pretty big deal for us.  This revelation means we are turning 150 this year. Happy Birthday Gleeds (you don’t look a day over 140).  Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eAjFpuAp #Gleeds150Anniversary #LifeatGleeds

Does the UK have a strategic edge in the global data centre race? As the world increasingly relies on resilient, efficient, and sustainable digital infrastructure, the UK is emerging as a leader in data centre development. With its mild climate, robust regulatory framework, and rich tech talent pool, the UK is uniquely positioned to support the digital economy’s growth. But how can we ensure this momentum is maintained? In our latest thought leadership piece, Stephen Kelly, Global Head of Data Centres, explores: ◾ The UK’s role in aligning data centres with net-zero energy goals ◾ How the mild climate provides a strategic advantage for reducing energy consumption ◾ Overcoming infrastructure and connectivity challenges to support rapid expansion ◾ The importance of nurturing a skilled workforce to power the future of digital infrastructure ◾ The government’s steps to enhance data centre security, naming them Critical National Infrastructure. With the right balance of innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, the UK has the potential to solidify its position as a global hub for digital infrastructure.
