Our Sustainability Manager Sydney Munoz joined Reju’s Head of North American Business Development Matthew Allen and WM’s Textiles Senior Manager Raymond Randall for an insightful panel discussion on textile recycling solutions at the Sourcing Journal’s Sustainability Summit on March 19. The panel discussed their new multi-year initiative, a collaborative model for regional textile collection, sortation, reuse and recycling to help keep non-wearable textiles in circularity and out of the waste stream. The EPA estimates that the U.S. generates at least 17 million tons of textile waste annually. This is a growing concern that makes advancing the circular economy and developing textile recycling solutions more important than ever. In fact, Goodwill is one of the biggest promoters of reuse, and last year, we recovered the value of more than 4.3 billion pounds of used goods. Sustainability is tightly woven into Goodwill’s important mission work, and the sale of secondhand goods not only reduces waste but also helps fund life-changing job and educational programs for individuals in need. Thanks to Sourcing Journal Sourcing and Labor editor Jasmin Malik Chua for moderating the panel and Kate Nishimura, reporter for Sourcing Journal for her coverage of the panel discussion.

We want to share a big thank you to Ascendium's Education Philanthropy for hosting a Learn and Lead Lab in support of our Opportunity Accelerator® program to expand postsecondary pathways for rural learners! The eight participating local Goodwill organizations had two days of learning and sharing with each other, Goodwill Industries International and TPMA, our evaluation partner. The collaboration will advance our initiative to expand opportunities for low-income rural learners with training pathways aligned to labor market needs. These efforts will provide low-income learners with the necessary training and support to secure jobs that pay a living wage. We are grateful for Ascendium Education Philanthropy’s commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening communities. Together, we are ensuring people in rural communities have access to better economic opportunities. #CommunityImpact #Education #OpportunityAccelerator #Goodwill #AscendiumEP
