Since its landfall as a Category (Cat) 4 hurricane on September 26, Post-Tropical Cyclone Helene has brought catastrophic impacts to the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Due to the sheer size of Helene, with a wind field radius of approximately 350 miles, impacts from the storm, such as heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 68 miles per hour (mph), were felt as far north and west as Illinois. As of September 30, President Biden has approved Major Disaster Declarations for Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina in addition to the pre-landfall emergency declarations made for those states as well as Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Additionally, the NHC reports multiple systems in the Atlantic and is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Kirk as it moves west, anticipated to become a hurricane later this week.
