Frontline and hourly workers are the backbone of our economy, but their health needs aren’t being met. Depression rates among frontline workers are 61% higher than among non-frontline workers. People in these essential roles also experience more anxiety, stress, and burnout on the job. Despite these greater mental health needs, frontline workers are significantly less likely to get treatment and support. It’s time to make mental health support a reality for those who need it most. For World Mental Health Day 2024, the Health Action Alliance is sharing practical ways to bridge this glaring gap. Join us on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. ET for our third annual Mental Health Equity at Work Summit, featuring panel discussions with business leaders and mental health experts. We will explore the unique mental health needs of frontline workers — and what employers can do to make sure no one is left behind in the pursuit of workplace well-being. RSVP today: https://lnkd.in/grSCnPdB This Summit is hosted by the Health Action Alliance, with support from Huntsman Mental Health Institute at the University of Utah, Ad Council, and Canva.

We're excited to elevate this meaningful op-ed by National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health member Dr. Vanessa Kerry, MD MSc. In this compelling piece for Boston Globe Media, Dr. Kerry underscores the urgent need for global action on mpox — and for stronger health care systems to confront future health crises. Despite the World Health Organization declaring mpox a global emergency twice in recent years, the world’s response has fallen short. Dr. Kerry makes the case for well-resourced health systems that can manage both routine care and crises like mpox. She also emphasizes the growing health impacts of our changing climate and advocates for more robust investments from the public and private sectors to prevent and manage health emergencies. Read the full op-ed here: https://lnkd.in/deUq3cHp #publichealth #mpox #climatechange #climatehealth #workforcehealth
How many more public health emergencies must we experience before we finally prioritize investing in and building strong health systems? To handle situations like the current mpox outbreak, now declared a public health emergency of international concern by the WHO, we must invest in our health systems. So that they are strong and resilient, with a well-trained and well-resourced health workforce to provide complete care, and able to respond quickly, no matter the crisis. The time to act is now. In my piece for The Boston Global (Boston Globe Media) I spell out the actions we must take right now: - Rapidly deploy support and flexible funding to countries affected in Africa to stop mpox from spreading further. - Ensure access to vaccines is rapid and affordable. - Strengthen resilient, climate-smart, and pandemic-responsive health systems. - Invest in climate adaptation and resilience for health. - Recognize that health is wealth. We must understand investing in health is critical to our security, economic stability, and future – not to mention being fair and equitable. https://lnkd.in/eg6aM-4E World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Africa CDC Pandemic Action Network Frontline Health Workers Coalition Bassim Birkland Anda Nindi Irene Atuhairwe Mustapha Sonnie #PublicHealth #Emergency #mpox #ClimateChange #HealthSystems #HealthWorkforce #WHO

The secret to thriving in a labor shortage? Age. Workers aged 55 and up are the fastest-growing segment of the workforce. They're not just bringing experience; they’re driving productivity and profitability. Amid the U.S. labor shortage, companies that retain and support older employees have a competitive edge. And when older workers team up with younger colleagues, the result is even more powerful.
