Excited to announce Coyote Ventures latest investment in Magnolia Care! Magnolia is an all-inclusive caregiver support service covered by health insurance. Magnolia’s platform focuses on improving health outcomes for dementia patients by empowering caregivers. Upon diagnosis of dementia, there is no standard care plan that is administered. Magnolia’s digital companion for caregivers assists with daily care planning, alongside additional resources such as mental health support for the caregiver. Magnolia was recently accepted into the CMS Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Program, a new program to support people with dementia and their unpaid caregivers. Magnolia is led by CEO Elisabeth Tarullo, formerly a founding member of the Amazon Care team. Liz and her co-founders have all experienced caregiving and are building Magnolia’s platform with a perspective that’s informed and motivated by personal experience. Women's life expectancy in the U.S. is, on average, two years less than our female peers in other developed countries, we learn in the latest look into Health Care for Women: How the U.S. Compares Internationally from The Commonwealth Fund. In today's Health Populi, I discuss four key charts from the Fund's analysis of women's health in wealthy countries, to find that women in the U.S. face lower life spans, are at greater risk for developing heart disease, deal with self-rationing care due to cost versus women in other rich nations (and face greater medical bill problems as part of their financial risks in U.S. health care), and deal with other health care access issues compared with our sisters in other wealthier parts of the world. I'm delighted to share our latest publication in Nature Portfolio Parkinson's disease on Quantitative DigitoGraphy (QDG), the first comprehensive connected care platform for Parkinson's Disease that remotely delivers validated, quantitative metrics of all motor signs in PD in real time, accessible within the Epic electronic health record system. QDG addresses critical challenges for people with PD, including a lack of access to neurological care, inadequate measurement and communication of motor symptoms, and suboptimal medication management and compliance. I've really enjoyed the process of designing, developing, and implementing QDG's Stanford Spezi-based mobile app paired with the KeyDuo bluetooth device, cloud-based #AI algorithm service, and Epic-integrated dashboard over the past two years as part of an interdisciplinary team led by Dr. Helen Bronte-Stewart and supported by Stanford Medicine Catalyst, Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign, Fogarty Innovation, and Technology & Digital Solutions - Stanford Medicine.
