We've collected a handful of HGA projects that harness the power of π for—you guessed it—Pi Day! 🥧 From pillars to wires, architecture would be impossible without Pi. This incredible number has been used to create beauty, precision and safety in design since the ancient pyramids. 📸: 2. Kyle Jeffers, 3, 6, 8. Paul Crosby, 4. Corey Gaffer, 5. Get to know our CEO, Mia Blanchett. Named by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (MSPBJ) to their Power Shift 25 list, this feature highlights her journey from serving up icy treats at Tasty Freeze—to her first year as CEO—and the more than thirty years with HGA in between. Perhaps the most striking revelation? She's binging White Lotus... just like the rest of us! 👋 Meet Mia: https://lnkd.in/eqq4AbiD 📸: ACBJ Photo Illustration

Comparing access to healthcare in urban and suburban environments can often feel like you're studying contrasting worlds. To close this gap between services in our cities and the rural communities that sprawl beyond them, focus shifts from the medical facilities themselves to preparing and incentivizing the next generation of practitioners. In this recent Insights piece, Kim Jensen and Carli Cole, Assoc. AIA dive into ongoing work with University of Minnesota Medical School and CentraCare that aims to create a circular economy—raising and retaining top-tier medical professionals in the communities that need them most.

“As architects, interior designers, engineers, and design professionals, we care deeply about what happens in the city,” said Jay Scruggs, AIA, LEED AP, principal with HGA, on revitalizing Downtown DC. i+s sat down with Scruggs and Emily Jelinek, design principal at HGA, to explore the adaptive reuse of the historic Woodies Building—now home to HGA’s DC office. Challenges included preserving rich historic details while designing a modern, hybrid-friendly workspace. With team engagement and in-house expertise, the result is a collaborative space that reflects both history and innovation. A pair of cranes are at work, bringing the new Bakar Research and Academic Building to life at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Parnassus Heights campus. There are only 10 cranes in the world that can perform the type of lifting operations needed for the construction, built in Germany and shipped to San Francisco. An exciting time for HGA with partners Snøhetta and HENSEL PHELPS to celebrate the buildings taking a physical shape in the skyline. Learn more ⬇
The future of UCSF is taking shape at Parnassus Heights. Tower cranes mark a major milestone in building the UCSF Barbara and Gerson Bakar Research and Academic Building and UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital — two state-of-the-art facilities that will advance patient care, research and education. These spaces will bring together top researchers, students and clinicians to drive medical breakthroughs and serve the community for generations. https://lnkd.in/gqnqauPk
