How is LPO’s new Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment (EIR) program positioned to help power America’s nuclear energy resurgence, leverage existing energy assets to help meet load growth demands, and support energy communities across the country? LPO Director Jigar Shah summed it all up earlier from the site of the Holtec Palisades nuclear energy project in western Michigan, where today the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the closing of a $1.52 billion loan guarantee to help bring a nuclear power plant back to life for the first time in American history via this Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)-created program! Bringing a retired nuclear power plant back to life for the first time in American history! Today, LPO and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the closing of a $1.52 billion loan guarantee to Holtec Palisades to help finance the restoration and resumption of service of an 800-MW nuclear generating station in Covert Township, Michigan. This project represents a first-of-a-kind effort by DOE to restart an American nuclear power plant and is also the first financial close of a project financed via LPO's Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment (EIR) program. (See: https://lnkd.in/gWi8EQA9) The Palisades Nuclear Plant, which ceased operations in May 2022, will be brought back online and upgraded to produce clean baseload power until at least 2051, subject to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensing approvals. The NRC also issued new guidance to ensure the restart is performed safely and to high standards. Once complete, this project will be the first recommissioning of a retired nuclear power plant in U.S. history—underscoring President Biden and Vice President Harris’ deep commitment to retaining and creating clean power jobs and advancing the U.S. nuclear industry while tackling the climate crisis and helping to achieve our domestic greenhouse gas reduction goals. This project also works toward the widespread deployment of advanced nuclear energy as described in the new update to the DOE Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Advanced Nuclear report (https://lnkd.in/gwuSPwWt), also announced today with a webinar this Friday, October 4th: https://lnkd.in/gKZ-pxtt Read the full DOE announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gWi8EQA9 and see LPO's Holtec Palisades project page for more details: https://lnkd.in/gXMFQ6TN LEARN MORE: • LPO's Holtec Palisades Project Page: https://lnkd.in/gXMFQ6TN • LPO Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment (EIR) Program: Energy.gov/LPO/EIR • LPO Title 17 Clean Energy Financing: https://lnkd.in/gN2jDVbw • DOE Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Advanced Nuclear Energy Updated Report: https://lnkd.in/gbnik7Uz • The Biden-Harris Administration "Investing in America" Agenda: WhiteHouse.gov/Invest • Read about other recent project announcements on LPO's blog: https://lnkd.in/g23s_Uk4 • Explore LPO's full portfolio of projects: Energy.gov/LPO/Projects #DOELPO #FinancingAmericanEnergy #BridgeToBankability #DeployDeployDeploy #Liftoff #OpenForBusiness #BuiltInAmerica #FinancingInnovation #FinancingImpact #FinancingClimateSolutions #FinancingAdvancedNuclear #FinancingNuclearEnergy #EIR #InvestingInAmerica #LPONews #FinancialClose

BIG NEWS for the UK and South Yorkshire that we have announced today. After a robust and highly competitive process, we have chosen South Yorkshire as the planned location for our £1.5bn GVA advanced SMR factory meaning thousands of highly-skilled and high-paying jobs. We also plan to use the factory to serve export markets in Europe. Our plan is for 70% of materials, components, and services to be procured within the UK and particularly South Yorkshire. Holtec’s SMR-300 is a PWR reactor - the most common technology in the world and the only in use in the UK - enabling the factory to also produce large naval reactor components to support the country’s energy security and national security. A Welcome Message to President Zelensky Honorable President Zelensky, On behalf of Holtec International’s associates here in the US and abroad, we extend a warm welcome to you who, according to media reports, will meet with President Biden shortly in the United States. We admire the resilience of the Ukrainian people who, despite the extreme suffering and deprivation inflicted on them, continue to stand resolute in their determination to expel the hated invader. We stand with our associates of Holtec Ukraine whose families, friends and relatives who are participating in support of their nation’s existential struggle to repel the rapacious aggressor. Putin and his henchmen should know that Ukraine’s national resolve to remain free and independent is unshakable, and it will not and cannot be smothered even as Russia’s vast arsenal of arms continues to rain on the beleaguered country decapitating its infrastructure and causing mounting civilian injuries and casualties. In an astonishing display of valor, Ukrainians, so outgunned that they are able to fire only one round of artillery against the invader who fires 10 rounds on them, are holding off a self-professed superpower even as they reel from continuous Russian onslaught. Lack of artillery equipment and America’s reluctance to allow the country to use American arms are the main reasons that Russia, whose economy is puny compared to the West, is able to wage war on Ukraine and field a vastly better equipped military. It makes little sense that Ukraine is denied the use of American weaponry that could hit Russian forward military bases from where Russia’s missiles and attack aircraft are launched to batter Ukrainian cities and power plants. We hope President Biden will relent and permit Ukraine to fight the aggressor on a level playing field. The hard to swallow truth is that American reticence is enabling Putin to extend the war and causing avoidable shedding of Ukrainian blood. According to those same media reports, you are bringing a peace plan for President Biden’s consideration. We hope the President gives you the wherewithal to give Putin a “shock and awe” treatment in the battlefield which will re-calibrate his territorial ambition and induce him to agree to peace. - Dr. Kris Singh, Holtec CEO https://lnkd.in/e82yPcic

Holtec Britain recently signed two further landmark agreements with the AMRC and the MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre to collaborate on SMRs, large nuclear, fusion and the civil and defence sectors. These agreements further demonstrate our commitment to the UK domestic market - in addition to our planned £1.5bn GVA advanced SMR factory - which will also be our hub for exports. https://lnkd.in/eTMSqgQk https://lnkd.in/ePk4DyCs
