About us
Sheffield Forgemasters can trace it's origins back to the early 1700s and through numerous famous names in the steel industry including Vickers, Firth Brown, English Steel and British Steel. The company is now a fully integrated supplier of steel castings and forgings with melt shop, forge, foundry, machine shops as well as extensive R&D and NDT services on a single site in the UK. Markets served include nuclear, defence, offshore oil and gas, power generation, steel processing and pressure vessels to name but a few. The company has produced some of the world's largest cast products up to 350 tonnes and steel forgings of up to 200 tonnes. Hundreds of years experience along with a commitment to new technology, new practices, quality and continuous R&D allows the company to produce complex castings and forgings for almost any application. The company also supplies various grades of raw materials, such as ingot and bar, for further manufacturing. Materials supplied in the UK can be delivered 'hot', where possible, to reduce heating time in furnaces.

Sheffield Forgemasters has submitted a planning application for a landmark machining facility on brownfield land in Sheffield’s Meadowhall district. Located on a 16-acre plot at Weedon Street, the new facility will form one of the world’s most advanced large #machining facilities, to support the company’s manufacture for the UK Defence programme. With work on the site planned to start in Q4 2024, the building will cover a space equal to 12 Olympic-sized swimming pools and will contain 17 new machines, including some of the largest and most advanced five-axis Vertical Turning Lathes ever produced. On June 6th, 1944, the Allied forces conducted one of the most important military operations in world history, involving the united efforts of more than 155,000 troops, 11,500 aircraft, and 6,900 naval vessels in an assault on five Normandy beachheads: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. Nearly 4,500 of these brave souls died and more than 5,000 were injured during the assault to liberate France and Western Europe from Nazi occupation. The importance of this incredible feat of sacrifice and warfare must never be forgotten. The determination of Allied forces, to break the stranglehold of Nazism, paved the way for the freedoms that we all enjoy today. With Europe gripped by the horrors of Nazi rule, dominated by its identity politics and systemic murder of Jews and other ethnic groups, the threat to our way of life was very close, only separated by the English Channel. For us, it is beholden to pay our respects to the incredible bravery of those who took part in those landings, facing their fears and marching into terrifying uncertainty, for the good of future generations. And for those who didn’t make it home, we will be eternally grateful for the ultimate sacrifices that they made. Lest we forget. #DDay80

Sheffield Forgemasters were delighted to welcome the crew of the UK’s newest nuclear submarine, HMS Agamemnon, back to South Yorkshire to present to our recapitalisation team. The event, held at Rotherham’s Magna Centre, allowed our team to learn about the incredible work that submariners undertake in order to keep our shores safe. We’d like to extend our gratitude to Commander Crosby, Hugo and Andy, for taking the time to talk to us. #UKDefence | Royal Navy
