The Housing Narrative Lab is a national communications and narrative research hub that lifts up the stories of people facing homelessness and housing insecurity and the systems that keep them from finding and keeping a home. Creating greater understanding of the root causes of homelessness and housing insecurity is key to laying the groundwork for state and policy changes that solve homelessness and ensure everyone has - and maintains - a home.

The majority’s decision is out of step with public sentiment. Our recent research shows that 7 out 10 respondents reject jailing, ticketing and fining people who have nowhere else to go. This decision will only make homelessness worse. 2024 Funders Institute Opening Plenary: What’s Next? Staying Focused on Housing Justice After Johnson v. Grants Pass #SCOTUS will announce their decision on #JohnsonVGrantsPass by the end of June. The ruling will determine whether cities can punish people for sleeping outside, even when there are no safe shelter options. During our opening plenary, we will proactively strategize about what comes next. This will include discussions about harm reduction, advancing narrative and advocacy work, and pushing for transformative policy changes. We will hear from movement leaders from the National Homelessness Law Center, Miriam's Kitchen, and the Housing Narrative Lab. The opening plenary will explore how we can best support unhoused people and follow the lead of people with lived experience. After the plenary, attendees will engage in strategy conversations about what philanthropy can do together to advance housing justice after Johnson v. Grants Pass.
