Never underestimate the power of one person to change the world. Starting a conversation about human trafficking may seem awkward, often because many people feel overwhelmed or helpless, unsure of how they can be part of the solution. But remember, it's not indifference, it's feeling overwhelmed. This is where you step in. Let them know that it's not a hopeless situation; they can make a real difference. Explain how HTI is actively decimating human trafficking at its source. All it takes is for you to start the conversation with ONE person. Together, we can continue to expand our reach, put more traffickers behind bars, and make a tangible difference in the global fight against human trafficking. #EndHumanTrafficking #HTI #PowerOfOne

The internet is a great threat to the vulnerable, and a powerful tool for traffickers. As technology and trends change, so do the online platforms and apps used by traffickers to recruit victims. In 2023, the top three online platforms used by traffickers to recruit victims were Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. Snapchat has been the most commonly identified online platform for recruitment of sex trafficking victims over the past three years. Together, we are making a difference! HTI's mission in Uganda is more powerful than ever as we scale our efforts to stop traffickers and protect victims. With our dedicated Regional Response Teams expanding from 7 to 28 members, we're strengthening the fight against human trafficking by supporting nearly 1,500 Ugandan police and prosecutors. Since deploying our teams, we've achieved a remarkable 57% increase in traffickers prosecuted and a 64% increase in victims freed. Did you know that the duration of exploitation for victims of human trafficking can vary significantly? According to HTI's Federal Human Trafficking Report (FHTR), the average length of exploitation in 2023 in the United States for sex trafficking cases was 12 months, while victims of forced labor faced a much longer period of exploitation, averaging 41 months. Tragically, some individuals were trapped for as long as 168 months. These statistics remind us of the urgent need to raise awareness and enact effective measures to combat both forced labor and sex trafficking. Since April of this year a total of 329 police officers have been trained through 12 training sessions by the Human Trafficking Institute in Belize! The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the attendees reflect a powerful commitment to combating human trafficking in our communities. Through this partnership, we are making strides to turn trafficking into a crime that's too risky to commit in Belize. #AntiTrafficking #Training #Belize #HumanTraffickingInstitute #HTI

Last month, Human Trafficking Institute had the privilege of hosting a Trafficking in Persons (TIP) training for 36 dedicated investigators from the South Africa Police Service (SAPS). The overwhelming feedback? They wanted more time to dive deeper into critical strategies to stop human trafficking! We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with SAPS in this vital work. Together, we are committed to strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking in South Africa. #EndHumanTrafficking #SouthAfrica #Training

Exciting News! In 2023, the Human Trafficking Institute successfully launched its enforcement model in the Republic of South Africa. As part of the pre-launch phase, HTI formed a crucial partnership with the National Prosecution Authority, outlining key steps to enhance the prosecution of traffickers. With an initial focus on the Western Cape, our dedicated team has begun critical assessments and engagements with key stakeholders to strengthen anti-trafficking efforts. We're just getting started, and traffickers should be afraid! Want to learn more about our efforts and impacts? HTI creates upstream solutions with outsized impact. Many anti trafficking efforts focus on awareness or caring for survivors. These are essential, but if we don’t invest in stopping traffickers, then they exploit more victims who need more care. By stopping traffickers, we not only free current victims, but prevent countless others from ever experiencing the horrors of trafficking in the first place. We do this through effective law enforcement. Many traffickers are only willing to engage in their crime if there is no meaningful cost in doing so. But when law enforcement teams impose serious costs on traffickers, seizing profits and sending them to jail, trafficking begins to collapse as traffickers decide the risk isn’t worth it.
