Programs like Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provide vital services to families with low incomes. Unfortunately, these programs are also often rife with administrative burdens—the excessive time, money, effort, and other work needed for eligible people to access their benefits. The evidence is clear: reducing administrative burdens helps more families and children thrive. As our research continues, we implore policymakers to make evidence-based decisions that best support low-income families and children in this new, post-pandemic world. #socialimpact #policy #policymaking

A non-profit design & consulting firm that uses insights from the behavioral sciences to address complex social problems
About us
ideas42 is a nonprofit that uses the insights of behavioral science—which helps us understand the choices and decisions people make—to design innovative solutions to social problems at scale. We do this by carefully dissecting the behavioral issues that prevent otherwise well-designed programs and products from achieving their goals. We then design remedies that use insights from behavioral economics that strive to mitigate or overcome these issues. We work in a number of areas: consumer finance, economic mobility and opportunity, health, education, energy efficiency, and international development. Diversity Statement: As an organization committed to bettering the world through behavioral science, ideas42 seeks to produce the best outcomes for the people touched by our work. We put a high value on hiring people with diverse experiences, backgrounds, and skills because we know that when it comes to solving hard problems with uncertain solutions, heterogeneous teams produce better work. In order to ask the right questions, we must engage in robust debate, empathetic inquiry, and rigorous analysis. These practices depend on a team with a wide array of knowledge, built through both formal training and lived experience. In constructing our team, we look for talented and hard-working people who share our mission and core values, and who can expand the perspectives and skills of the ideas42 team.

In rural Ghana, one in five young women give birth before the age of 18. Many of the resulting pregnancies are unplanned, with girls often attempting to terminate the pregnancy on their own or dropping out of school. Addressing this challenge requires not just new solutions, but deeper, more collaborative partnerships. That's where our work with Pathfinder International, Women’s Health to Wealth (WHW), and Americares comes in. Chance—a game that empowers girls to take control of their reproductive health—represents a new approach to complement existing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) efforts. Originally developed by ideas42 and Pathfinder for girls in Burkina Faso, WHW and Americares sought to adapt the game for Ghanaian adolescents. ideas42 then teamed up with WHW and Americares to refine the game for Ghanaian teens, which they then tested across several clubs. Preliminary insights indicate that the game combats myths around contraceptives, highlights their benefits, builds awareness on how to access them, and strengthens agency around contraceptive use. While it's well-known that many small businesses lack a succession plan, it's less clear *why*. Join our team to hear about small business owners' perspectives on succession planning, barriers they face, and how these insights can inform efforts to encourage planning and support business owners in navigating this process. 📅 Tuesday, March 25th 🕐 12:00 p.m. ET 🔗 Register for free here: https://bit.ly/4iyJfYm Vivien Caetano, Adam Struck, Dinardo Rodriguez, Evelyn Stark, ideas42

Over the weekend, the world recognized #InternationalWomensDay. For over a century, International Women’s Day has served as a stark reminder of the persistent inequalities confronting women worldwide. Across economic, social, and personal spheres, distinct barriers impede their progress and well-being. #Behavioralscience can be a powerful tool for dismantling those barriers. By applying its insights, we can forge a path towards a future where gender is no longer a determinant of a healthy and fulfilling life for anyone. #IWD2025 #WomenLeaders
